Our House Supervisor (RN) is responsible for the nursing leadership and coordination of assigned nursing personnel. This position ensures the delivery of quality nursing care by managing and supervising the staff providing direct care. Serves actively and constructively as member of the multi-disciplinary treatment team in support of the organization and program treatment philosophy; to ensure the safety and well-being of patients.
JOB RESPONSIBLITIES:
- Provides leadership through assessment, planning, implementing and evaluation of direct patient care services provided in each clinical area.
- Ensures productive and efficient staffing of units based on a thorough understanding of the correlation between patient census, acuity and FTE standards; coordinates with Scheduling Manager and assumes staffing function as needed.
- Ensures throughput in the facilities, coordinating/facilitating admissions and discharges.
- Monitors patient progress in compliance with treatment plan, making recommendations in accordance with patient care needs; ensure medical/nursing needs are addressed in the treatment plan.
- Provides clinical supervision and assists staff in planning patient care.
- Instructs and guides mental health specialists, and nurses in patient care responsibilities and assignments.
- Provides feedback to staff on performance, reinforcing desired behaviors and teambuilding efforts and intervening promptly in deficiencies to reduce turnover rate and formal performance measures.
- Demonstrates clinical expertise and sets a strong therapeutic tone for patient interventions; works diligently to reduce the occurrences of physical restraint and seclusion of patients.
- Acts as a leader in emergency management including coordination of care in high-intensity safety situations.
- Expedites issues of concern to senior administrators on call
- Acts as a liaison with patients, family members, and healthcare professionals to ensure quality care
- Assists in audits of clinical and performance databases; works to ensure, timely, accurate completion of all required care documentation by nursing care staff.
- Reviews safety, risk management, infection control and incident reports to identify and discuss trends with nursing staff and coordinate care.
- Reviews and analyzes patient chart data for nursing improvement opportunities in the areas of programming and core delivery.
- Performs personnel management activities including direct staff supervision, orientation/training/development, performance management and employee relations functions; adheres to HR policies/procedures, and applicable employment laws, standards and regulations.
- Assists Nursing Leadership and HR Department with hiring and selection processes through screening, interviewing and making recommendation for hire. Anticipates staffing trends and needs and proactively offers staffing solutions.
- Completes performance evaluations for staff in a timely manner, including initial and 90-day competencies, and annual performance evaluations
- May serve as the acting Nurse Manager (NM) in the absence of the NM when assigned and work on the unit in critical staffing situations
- Performs general nursing and other duties as needed and assigned.
Qualifications House Supervisor (RN) Job Requirements:
- Current license to practice nursing in Alaska
- Current CPR or BLS certification
- Previous House Supervisor / Charge Nurse experience preferred
