We are currently recruiting for a 1st Shift Registered Nurse for our Screening and Admissions Unit at Central Regional Hospital. The Screening and Admissions Unit (SAU) coordinates the screening of all prospective patients for admission, coordinates the admission process for all patients, and complies with EMTALA guidelines. The department gathers and enters pertinent client information and client movements into the statewide computer system (HEARTS).
The primary purpose of the SAU Registered Nurse is to actively collaborate with all customers and ensure patients are processed in a safe manner and divert admissions that are clinically or legally inappropriate. The position is to provide psychiatric mental-health care and direct supervision to other licensed and non-licensed staff during their assigned shift. This care includes the assessment/treatment of actual or potential mental and medical conditions. Supervision includes rotating the charge nurse role and appropriately delegating tasks and responsibilities to other staff.
This is a full-time position and eligible for the full State benefits program. The normal work hours are 7:30am - 4:00pm; 40 hours/week, including every other weekend and alternating holidays (flexible scheduling). Pay is competitive and includes shift differential as appropriate, including 10% shift differential for weekends for all shifts. The Registered Nurse position is mandatory during adverse weather events, which will be discussed in detail during the interview process.

- Must be able to write and speak English proficiently and communicate effectively in written and oral form.
- Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team with social work, psychiatrists, medical doctors.
- Ability to de-escalate angry and sometimes aggressive patients by means of therapeutic communication in a professional manner and interact with patients and their families in a respectful manner in coordination of patient care and education.
- Ability to delegate and supervise patient care delivery by HCT/TSS, LPNs, and other RNs when performing in the charge nurse role.
- Ability to identify and implement psychiatric and nursing interventions and complete nursing care clinical competencies.
Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements will be discussed with the applicant during the interview process, but will include the ability to pass CPR, protective interventions (NVCI) and other required training, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Management Preference:
Experience working with patients in an emergency psychiatric setting but will train.

**Eligibility for Sign-on Bonus (Effective 10/20/21)
Qualified applicants must be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:
A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time employee who works 30 to 40 hours per week is eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working less than 40 hours per week).
An employee is not eligible for a sign-on bonus if:
(1) the employee has held a position in North Carolina State government, including the judicial system, or the University of North Carolina system within the last 12 months (the employee shall remain ineligible for 12 months from the separation date);
(2) the employee has previously received a sign-on bonus from any State agency;
(3) or DHHS has paid any contract placement or recruitment fees.
