About UCHealth Medical Group
With a world-class team of nearly 1,700 physicians and providers, UCHealth Medical Group (UCHealthMG), the multi-specialty physician-led group practice serving UCHealth hospitals and clinics along the Front Range, provides a full continuum of medical care and the highest level of expertise.
UCHealth clinics, staffed by UCHealth Medical Group physicians, are an integrated, multi-specialty physician and health system partnership. Physicians who are employed by UCHealth practice at over 150 clinics as well as hospitals along the Front Range of Colorado.
Academic providers are affiliated with CU School of Medicine and operate independently from UCHealthMG, yet they work together effectively and coordinate patient care whenever necessary.
Chief Nursing Officer, UCHealthMG
This is an outstanding opportunity to join UCHealthMG, a top, physician-led group practice owned by UCHealth. This position is part of a high-performing, quality-focused senior leadership team in a results-driven, growing health care system. The new Chief Nursing Officer must lead the vision of "From Health Care to Health" by forging strong relationships with the health system enterprise, UCHealthMG physicians and physician leadership to create an overall entity unparalleled in the United States today.
The Chief Nursing Officer at UCHealthMG provides leadership across all facets of clinical operations within ambulatory care services and assigned areas. This role entails full accountability for nursing practices and involves collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer to oversee operational clinical services and assigned patient care services. The Chief Nursing Officer will contribute as a member of the UCHealthMG executive team to provide and continually improve health care services and to support the mission and goals of UCHealthMG and UCHealth.
Reporting Relationships
Reports to: Chief Executive Officer, UCHealthMG with a dotted line reporting relationship to the System Chief Nursing Executive of UCHealth.
Responsibilities
- Accountable for the provision of clinical operations throughout ambulatory services, nursing practice and standards of care
- Provides leadership to direct the activities of planning, organizing, monitoring, and improving the quality of the respective programs and services.
- In partnership with physicians, develops, maintains, and implements nursing protocols, policies and procedures that conform to current standards of UCHealthMG, while maintaining compliance with state and federal laws and regulations
- Assists in carrying out the approved Strategic Plan and participates in the process to modify the plan as necessary and maintain its progress.
- Demonstrates through actions the philosophy, mission, values of UCHealth and aligns the goals for Nursing and determines the organizational structure for achieving these.
- Responsible for clinical staff workforce management (including attrition rates, job description development, competencies) - aiming to enhance oversight of clinical staff for better retention and competency through redesign efforts
- Demonstrates sound understanding of and has broad experience with operations, health care finances, board responsibilities, physician relations, and knowledge of how all entities are interdependent, along with current knowledge of the trends and challenges in health care.
- Engages with community partners such as colleges of nursing, allied health professional training programs, local nursing professional organizations, and public health organizations
- Collaborates with business operations and medical leadership on policies, process improvement, and quality initiatives
- Ability to attract, cultivate and lead high-performing management teams.
- Functions as a respected and respectful collaborative team player.
- Advance the nursing profession while delivering patient-centered care that meets the highest standards of quality, safety, and efficiency.
- Using Just Culture principles, advances the safety of clinical care throughout the medical group in all care settings.
- Identifies and removes barriers to create a true care continuum between our clinics and our hospital teams.
Candidate Qualifications
Education/Certification
- A master's degree in nursing, business, healthcare is required
- Minimum five years' Nursing leadership experience preferably at a senior level; Unrestricted RN license from the State of Colorado Board of Nursing or compact privileges under the multi-state Nurse Licensure Compact agreement.
- Experience as a nursing executive in a large, complex health system preferred or large multi discipline medical group
- Experience in ambulatory clinical leadership in a large integrated medical system preferred.
- Experience in matrixed reporting relationships and possess strong collaboration skills to foster relationships across UCHealth

- Maintain a program that ensures proper selection and retention of qualified patient care staff.
- Provide an evaluation process for all employees which promotes motivation for professional growth, self-improvement, and which provides for just disciplinary action when needed.
- Maintain professional affiliations to enhance professional growth and development to keep up with latest trends in healthcare administration.
- Promote educational opportunities to foster leadership development and management effectiveness.
- Promote communication between administration, management/supervisory personnel, and employees.
- Facilitate the development of an environment which focuses on patient and staff safety. Assist with the development of indicators that will measure the impact of those efforts.
- Perform other administrative/managerial duties as required/directed.
