POSITION SUMMARY
The health and wellness director specialist (HWDS) serves as the health and wellness director (HWD) where needed, typically on a temporary basis, and assists with onboarding and mentoring new health and wellness directors. The HWDS directs and manages team members serving in a caregiver, medication management, and nursing capacity. The HWDS works to ensure the Community complies with federal and state laws, regulations, and Company policies and procedures. The HWDS leads by example and champions the company’s mission, Residents First in Everything We Do.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee and monitor resident care delivery and nursing interventions.
- Coordinate resident care delivery through collaboration with residents, families, physicians, team members, pharmacies, and third-party vendors.
- Ensure resident assessments, individualized service plans, resident service records, and other documentation is at all times current, complete, and filed in the resident health records.
- Help recruit and hire qualified team members in assigned communities.
- Direct licensed nurses, caregivers, medication passers, and all other team members of the assisted living and memory care neighborhoods, as applicable.
- Deliver training, as appropriate, during Team Member Orientation, annual training requirements, and for corrective purposes, in accordance with state laws and company policies and procedures.
- Provide and document verbal coaching to direct reports on performance expectations, provide timely performance evaluations, and initiate progressive disciplinary action, as warranted.
- Train and supervise team members for quality improvement initiatives.
- Understands and evaluates proper use of lift equipment, walkers, canes, and gait belts.
- Assist with sales and marketing efforts.
- Assume on-call responsibilities, as needed.
- Complete and meet all company and state-specific training requirements.
- Provides a physical environment that is clean, organized, safe, and free of clutter and hazards.
- Practices universal precautions.
- Oversees and ensures team members' adherence to policies and procedures Through monitoring and oversight.
- Observes and practices emergency procedures related to elopement, fire, and potential disasters.
- Understands and implements best practices related to providing first aid and enlisting 911 emergency services.
- Adheres to Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) policies and procedures, to include securing behind locked doors or cabinets all chemicals when not in use and following applicable instructions for use.
- Contribute to successful Community Survey Readiness Visits.
- Perform responsibilities in accordance with federal and applicable state laws and Nurse Practice Act.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA and state resident rights laws.
- Intervene and report suspected or alleged theft and/or abuse of any kind.
- Develop quality improvement initiatives applicable to resident care.
Miscellaneous
- Up to 100% travel required.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Current and unencumbered registered nurse licenses for the state in which the assigned communities are located.
- Experience working with and directing programs serving older adults in senior living, long-term care, home health, or other health care setting.
- Several years of relevant work experience in a leadership or managerial role.
- Ability to anticipate and solve problems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong computer skills and ability to proficiently utilize a variety of electronic devices.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and inspire and motivate teams.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Ability to effectively communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evening and night shifts, weekends, and holidays.
