We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Employee Health Nurse to join our team at OrthoNebraska. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting and maintaining the health, safety, and wellness of our employees through the development, implementation, and evaluation of health programs. This role is essential to fostering a healthy work environment and supporting the overall well-being of our staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Service:
- Champion a service mindset, with a commitment to address the needs of our customers through effective communication, support, and proactive problem solving.
- Actively seek feedback to continuously improve HR services.
- New Employee Health Screening and Immunization:
- Oversee and manage new employee health screening process, including physical exams, drug testing, and immunization verification.
- Ensure compliance with immunization requirements and maintain accurate records.
- Leads the Influenza Vaccination Team in planning, execution and evaluation of processes.
- Coordinate the blood borne pathogen exposure program:
- Monitors all bloodborne pathogen injuries.
- Coordinates reporting services through the OUCH Program.
- Serves on the Safety Committee and Infection Control Committee as the hospital employee health resource, reporting all bloodborne pathogen exposures to the committee.
- Work Compensation and Return to Work:
- Manage workers' compensation cases, including claims processing and communication with insurance providers.
- Coordinate return-to-work programs, ensuring safe and timely reintegration of employees following injury or illness.
- Collaborate with leadership and medical professionals to develop modified duty assignments as needed.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Assist in the management of employee health records and confidentiality.
- Ensure all health & wellness programs comply with relevant regulations and best practices.
- Collaborate with the Physical Therapy team to address workplace ergonomics.
- Maintain and monitor compliance with all organizational health policies.
- Oversee monitoring OSHA regulations and guidelines:
- Develop and implement OSHA-compliant safety programs and training.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify and address potential hazards.
- Maintain accurate records of workplace injuries, illnesses, and incidents.
- Coordinate with leadership to ensure process changes are taken to mitigate risks.
- Stay updated on OSHA standards and implement necessary changes to workplace policies and procedures.
- Health Education and Promotion:
- Support and share educational materials to promote health and wellness.
- Collaborate with HR Team and wellness partners to provide resources and services.
- Employee Support:
- Provide support to employees regarding health and wellness issues.
- Serve as a point of contact for employees seeking health and wellness resources and assistance.
- Act as a liaison between employees and leadership regarding health, safety, and wellness matters.
- Participates in new hire orientation by introducing the OUCH program, delivering respirator (PAPR) training and explaining the employee illness trending surveillance and sick line access.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Foster a culture of health, safety and wellness through effective communication and collaboration across departments.
- Ensure Employee Health programs align with organizational goals.
- Collaborates with Education on annual competencies.
- Collects data from the "sick line" and reports illness trending surveillance criteria to the Infection Preventionist.
- Continuous Improvement
- Participate in performance improvement activities.
- Attend and participate in all mandatory educational programs & department meetings.
- Participates in continuing education to maintain competency and to keep informed of changes affecting nursing and healthcare.
- Maintains nursing licensure requirements and educational records.
- Demonstrates up-to-date knowledge of policies and procedures and regulatory compliance issues.
- Attends seminars related to employee occupational health and wellness topics.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of employee health, safety and wellness principles, practices, and trends.
- Experience with new employee health screening, immunization management, workers' compensation, OSHA regulations, and return-to-work programs.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong organizational and project management skills
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required. Master's degree preferred.
- Certified Occupational Health Nurse certification or similar certification is a plus.
- BLS required
Experience:
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in employee health required or 10+ years of Nursing experience
- Experience with wellness beneficial.
Physical:
- This position is classified as Sedentary Work in the Dictionary of Occupational Titles, requiring the exertion of up to 1-pounds of force occasionally (up to 33% of the time) and /or a negligible amount of force frequently (33%-66% of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time.
Must be able to pass background check. We also conduct pre-employment physical and drug testing. Any job offer will be contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment physical with a drug screen, background check and obtaining active licensures per job requirements.
