This position serves as Registered Nurse for the Nursing Department at Villa Feliciana Medical Complex, an acute and long term care hospital whose mission is to operate health care programs which provide medical care and treatment for residents with acute, subacute, and chronic illnesses and/or disabilities resulting from trauma or genetic defects.
VFMC is a specialized 24 hour medical facility operating with 150-175 staffed beds, with a license capacity of 299 beds. All beds are licensed as hospital beds. The facility operates a small hospital care service that is surveyed by health standards using hospital licensing requirements, with the remainder of the facility surveyed annually under CMS and state standards for nursing facility care. Specialized units include 10 beds for acute and subacute care including a wound care service, and the only inpatient tuberculosis program in the state. The facility is staffed with a table of organization of 221 classified positions and 20+ unclassified positions with a budget in excess of $23 million. The physical plant consists of three patient care buildings, administrative building, activity buildings, support service buildings, staff residences, and a variety of storage and special purpose structures, located on a 157 acre site with its own fresh water system, sewer system, chiller and boiler systems, and electrical distribution system. This facility has control of passage with a security gate at entrance.
This position is established as a training series and will provide basic professional nursing care to patients at Villa Feliciana Medical Complex. Work will be performed according to establish procedures, rules, regulations and policies of the agency and in accordance with professional practices and standards and regulatory agencies.
75% Provide direct care to patients whose condition requires skilled procedures and techniques on the hospital unit. Performs general nursing duties to include administration of medication and treatments as ordered by physician. Perform professional nurse duties to include administration of blood and blood components, IV meds, parental nutrition, central line therapy, etc. Maintain accurate and proper documentation of patient records. Make rounds with physicians and nursing supervisors to assess patients. Make regular rounds to observe and assess patient's physical conditions and behavior, records observations and patient's records. Complete physicians orders regarding patient care, transcribe orders, assist with exams, admits, transfers and discharges. Provide report at shift change and perform drug counts with oncoming shift.
20% Assist in the development of nursing care plans, participate in patient staffing/conferences, and activities to improve patient care. Assist with hospital wide Utilization Review activities to assure, by review of medical records, that patient care is provided in such a way to prevent over or under utilization of services and to maximize reimbursement by compliance with federal and state requirements. Conduct chart reviews, update monthly present orders and MARs as assigned. Completes Quality Assurance reports as required. Communicates with patients families and visitors.
5% Maintain materials, supplies and equipment for hospital unit. Maintain current RN License and continuing education requirements. Performs all other related duties as required in order to maintain the smooth operation of the Nursing Service Department and Villa Feliciana Medical Complex.
