SCOPE OF POSITION
OSU Harding Hospital/East Hospital-Talbot Hall provides the most comprehensive behavioral healthcare services for adults in central Ohio. We offer more treatment options and a more experienced and diversified staff than any other psychiatric or behavioral healthcare provider in the area. All of our psychiatric emergency, behavioral health urgent care (BHUC), inpatient, outpatient, IOP, and partial hospitalization services include a comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis from a qualified clinician and implementation of an individualized treatment plan. We offer specialized evidence-based services for patients experiencing psychiatric emergency & crisis, need for behavioral health urgent care, mood and anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, psychosis, trauma- and stress-related disorders, and sexual dysfunction. We offer specialty programs in women’s behavioral health, addictions, trauma, adolescent school-based, and neurocognitive disorders. Talbot Hall provides the most comprehensive addiction services for adults in central Ohio, offering specialized evidence-based services for patients experiencing a substance use disorder. We offer traumatic brain injury specific treatment, the latest Medicated Assisted Treatment for opiate and alcohol use disorders. Talbot offers detox, intensive outpatient, partial hospitalization and many outpatient and continuing care groups. Patients and their family will experience the benefits of patient-focused care through the integrated skills of all treatment team members. The BHUC clinic nurse serves as a critical part of our clinical team.
The OSU Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC) program has been designed to bridge the gaps in the mental health continuum of care. OSU Behavioral Health Urgent Care (BHUC) offers short-term psychotherapy and psychiatric medication evaluation, management, and limited case-management services to patients at risk for behavioral health decompensation. Appointments can be scheduled or walk-in, conducted in-person, or delivered virtually via telehealth.
POSITION SUMMARY
The BHUC Clinic Nurse will be the primary responder to manage the triage/intake of patients in the walk-in clinic, as well as incoming clinic phone calls. The BHUC Clinic Nurse, after triage or phone call, will determine if the patient is clinically appropriate for BHUC or needs higher level of care (i.e., Emergency Department level of care), and then assists and/or directs the patient to that level of care. In addition to providing psychiatric triage to walk-in patients and managing incoming clinic phone calls, the BHUC Clinic Nurse will also be responsible for obtaining patient vitals, assist with resolving issues with prescriptions and pharmacies, returning phone messages the same day they are received, administering long-acting injectable medications when prescribed by BHUC physicians/advanced practice providers, assist with obtaining and/or forwarding lab results, provide education to patients regarding medications and side effects as needed, respond to messages sent by patients in MyChart, and other patient needs as requested by clinic staff. The BHUC Clinic Nurse acts as the “front door” to the BHUC clinic and helps coordinate patient care.
Minimum Qualifications: Minimum 2 years' experience as a psychiatric RN is required, BSN preferred.
In addition, knowledge of and comfort in working with patients and their families/support systems with diverse racial and cultural backgrounds who are experiencing severe emotional illness and are either at risk for inpatient psychiatric hospitalization or are transitioning back to the community from inpatient hospitalization.
