Medical Assistant II - Office Based

Work Location: 10000 Lakewood Blvd., Downey, CA

Work Shift: Monday – Friday: 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

The Medical Assistant II is responsible for assisting clinicians in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the physician.

How will you make an impact:

Provides back-office support and may occasionally provide front office support.
Greets patients in a friendly, service-oriented manner in compliance with Carelon Health Care Center (CCC) or Medical Group Practice protocols and workflows.
Oversees patient check in by ensuring medical records/charts have been pulled, patient data is current, appropriate paperwork is in order, and charts are reviewed/prepared.
Interviews patients, measures vital signs and records reason for visit.
Explains procedures, performs treatments, and administers prescribed medication.
Oversees patient check out by scheduling follow up appointments, collecting co-payment if applicable, ensuring paperwork is complete.
Schedules and confirms patient's appointments.
Reconciles co-payments at the end of each day.

Minimum Requirements:

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and minimum of 2 years of related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background.
Requires an active, current and valid Medical Assistant certification.
For Carelon Health business unit, satisfactory completion of a Tuberculosis test is a requirement for this position.

Preferred Skills, Capabilities and Experiences:

Experience working in a primary care medical office.
Phlebotomy certification desired.
Experience working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) preferred.
Bilingual communications skill in English/Spanish highly preferred.

For candidates working in person or remotely in the below location(s), the pay* range for this specific position is $18.85/hr. to $28.27/hr.
