POSITION SUMMARY:
Manages all hospital activities related to the Infection Prevention and Control Program, including educational program development, consultation to departments on matters of infection control, and ensure ongoing organizational compliance with regulatory agency protocols.
PROVISION OF SERVICES
- Demonstrates initiative in the coordination of clinical epidemiology services by developing, implementing, and refining a process to facilitate effective surveillance, prevention, and control of hospital acquired and other designated infections throughout NWTHS.
- Provides assistance and services within the scope of care to the laboratory and the Public Health Department by reporting to the appropriate entity identified disease processes within designated timeframes.
- Responsible for participating and leading the department and facility in performance Improvement activities which are directly and or indirectly related to this scope of care.
- Exhibits leadership skills in planning, organizing, and coordinating epidemiology program functions in relation to the UHS and NWTHS mission, vision, strategic goals, and values.
- Demonstrates consistency in compliance with JCAHO’S infection control standards, as well as other regulatory agency requirements, through the application of valid clinical epidemiology principles, provision of appropriate consultative and educational input, and promotion of service excellence standards.
- Additionally serves as the JCAHO team leader for the surveillance, Prevention and Control of Infection Team.
- Collaborates with all members of the healthcare team both within the facility and within the community.
- Demonstrates competency in computer skills and database management through utilization of specialized software and other software systems as necessary.
- Prepares data, analyzes and reports information within designated timeframes.
- Prepares and analyzes data for specifically requested reports in a timely manner.
- Develops and implements a budget for the epidemiology function including compliance monitoring of budgeted parameters and appropriate corrective action as indicated while providing the scope of services for this role within NWTHS.
- Contributes to the overall objective of resource conservation by identifying opportunities to simultaneously improve patient care while decreasing expenses or to reduce/eliminate unnecessary cost, assisting in cost-benefit analyses, and participating in rational decision making when clinical needs exceeded resource availability.

Qualifications EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
- Minimum Formal Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or Microbiology or related science. Master’s preferred in Nursing, Education, Epidemiology or related field.
- Special Training: APIC Basic IC Course and Certification preparation course
- Previous Experience: three to five years experience in infection prevention
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Certification Infection Control (CIC) within 6 months of eligibility. Continuing certification required.
