Our NICU department is comprised of 12 NICU beds with additional nursery beds totaling up to 18 beds. Our nurses are trained to care for patient populations consisting of: preterm, growth restriction, respiratory distress, and different infections. Our unit is a level 3 designated level of acuity that also collaborates with L&D.

Nursing skills gained:
- Critical care assessment skills
- IV starts and arterial sticks
- Umbilical lines
- CPAP and ventilators
- Family support

Unit Successes/Designations/National recognition:
- Level 3 NICU
- Several certified nurses (RNC-NIC)
- Multiple DAISY nominees and winners
- Multiple Capstone preceptors for nursing students
- 13 years CLABSI free
- Consistently surpasses patient experience goal

Qualifications

Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
