Responsibilities The Aerodigestive clinic is a multispecialty clinic that focuses on caring for children with eating, sleeping, breathing, and swallowing concerns. The RN will work closely with ENT, pulmonology, GI, and sleep medicine providers. The RN serves as the central point of contact for patients/families and the multidisciplinary team. The RN will see patients in clinic and complete an assessment, review the patient care plan and goals, provide patient education, and review any outside medical records. The RN communicates and updates the care team on significant findings and/or family concerns/goals of care. The nurse arranges and plans for clinic appointments and assures the appropriate lab work, x-rays, procedures, and consultations are scheduled and coordinated for follow up. The RN implements treatment plans, triages phone calls, and facilitates communication across providers, settings, and caregivers. The RN provides emotional support and educational needs of patients and families. They also provide needed resources for transitional care to home, school, and the primary care physician. RN serves as a liaison with other Mayo sub-specialty providers, as well as local health facilities and primary providers for maintaining continuity of care. It is essential that the nurse coordinator enjoy working with patients and families in complex medical and social situations and possess excellent communication and critical thinking skills.
The registered nurse (RN) is accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education and transitions of care. The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. The RN will function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients. The ANA Nursing: Scope and Standards of Practice provide a basis for the practice of the RN. The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts. The RN delegates patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability and availability of resources. The RN possesses excellent communication skills; is skillful in mentoring and teaching; and may participate on committees or projects. A subset of employees may be required to drive their personal vehicle as a part of the responsibility of their role.

Qualifications Graduate of a baccalaureate nursing program, as recognized by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), National League for Nursing Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (NLN CNEA). If graduated from a nursing program that was not accredited by ACEN, CCNE, or NLN CNEA, at least one year of RN experience in an applicable care setting or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic is required.
All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date of April 1, 2020 and after must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program within five years from the last day of the month of the RN start date.
All entry-level associate degree registered nurses with a RN start date prior to April 1, 2020 must provide documented evidence of program completion of the baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited nursing program as stipulated by the degree requirement program in place at time of hire.
A minimum of 1 year pediatric or neonatal nursing experience preferred, but all applicants will be reviewed. Knowledge of pediatric population characteristics and desired outcomes. Candidates must be able to work independently alongside a team of physicians within the Peds specialty. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Experience working in a team environment. Computer skills required, prior experience with electronic medical record systems preferred. Ability to adapt to unpredictable situations within the work setting. Demonstrated leadership, effective communicator, and excellent critical thinking skills.

Current RN license by applicable state requirements. Arizona and Florida - Maintains Basic Life Support (BLS) competency. Midwest - Maintains current Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers from one of the following programs: American Heart Association or American Red Cross. Positions that are not on campus may not require current Basic Life Support (BLS) competency as determined by the work area.
