Position Responsibilities
·Prepares the OR suite appropriately to receive a new admission. Greets the patient upon arrival and initiates hemodynamic monitoring.
·Evaluates, assesses and documents patient’s surgical status. Report abnormal findings to physician and document pre/post-op counts.
·Assists anesthesia in maintaining intake and output, checks availability of blood products and checks blood products with anesthesia before administering. Document blood administration and assures accuracy.
·Demonstrates ability to handle difficult situations dealing with conflict in a timely manner.
·Demonstrates appropriate safety measures as it relates to potential radiation exposure.
·Monitors, evaluates and intervenes appropriately with patients receiving conscious sedation.
·Competent in application of safety positioning devices, providing ongoing observation, intervention and documentation as per hospital policy.
·Maintains thorough knowledge of operation, care and handling of O.R equipment. Demonstrates ability to perform new procedures, skills and routines in specialty areas.
·Performs initial vital signs and admission history to include introduction to patient and family.
·Obtains and documents a complete nursing admission assessment, including physiological and psychological factors to develop a plan of care within eight hours of admission.
·Performs and documents an accurate systems assessment at the beginning of each procedure.
·Responds to diagnostic data and initiates appropriate action or intervention.
·Initiates plan of care and establishes priorities for patient care based on patient needs.
·Safely and correctly initiates and documents nursing interventions in emergency situations.
·Performs 24-hour chart check at the beginning of each procedure.
·Prepares intravenous solutions using aseptic technique.
·Administers, observes and documents intravenous therapy according to hospital policy.
·Provides individualized instructions each procedure to patient/significant other regarding the plan of care.
·Demonstrate safe and correct use of unit specific equipment.
·Ensures that each patients general hygiene needs are met.
·Performs pre-operative and post operative care and instruction for each assigned surgical patient during shift.
·Documents/reports patient responses or outcomes resulting from: nursing interventions, treatments/procedures, interpersonal interactions, and patient/family education.
·Plans, presents and documents unit in-service as required by level.
·Documents competency in clinical skills annually.
·Attends staff meetings as required.
·Presents a minimum of 2 in-services, 2 patient conferences.
·Attends staff meetings.
·Serves as preceptor/clinical resource
·Functions as charge nurse and assists in applying financial management principals – e.g., staffing, scheduling, decreasing LOS, Triaging, supply management.
·Chair or Co-Chair unit-based PI committee meetings.
·Participate sin clinical competency compliance of staff.
·All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
·Active FL RN License
·BLS Required
·CNOR Preferred
·Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred
·Robotic and Thoracic experience required
·2 years of experience in area of specialty preferred
