CHH2 Outpatient Care Unit provides care for a variety of surgical observation
patients who require monitoring after day surgery procedures for pain control, postop nausea and vomiting, surgical site monitoring or other indications. Patients on the OCU have met phase 1 recovery criteria in a post-anethesia care unit (PACU) setting and are anticipated to discharge within 24-48 hours of arrival on the unit. Common procedures include: thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy, gynecology and urology procedures, mastectomy, breast reduction and reconstruction, GI procedures, laminectomy, sinus surgery, simple fracture repair, orthopedic hardware removal, 1-3 level spinal fusions, total knee and hip joint replacement, dialysis graft repair and placement, laparoscopic procedures such as appendectomy and cholecystectomy and hernia repairs, ophthalmic and cochlear
procedures.
Department Specific Working Conditions: The hours of operation for CHH2 Outpatient Care Unit require a Monday morning opening and unit closure each Sunday by noon. Day shift RNs will be required to sign up for one 5 hour Sunday shift in addition to their FTE per month (can be on call). Night shift RNs are required to sign up for a Saturday night call shift once a month.
Function/Duties of Position
$52.11-$86.81 per hour, based on RN Degree and level of experience

Required Qualifications
- BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
- ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
- Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
- Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
- BLS at time of hire and must be issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)
- BLS must not expire during orientation
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

- New Graduate Nurses: Currently not accepting new graduate nurses
- Experienced Nurse: 2 years recent nursing experience on a med-surg floor with post-surgical patients
Preferred Qualifications

- Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
Additional Details
Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse
- External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
- Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
