Under general direction and following established medically-approved policies and procedures, the incumbent will implement specialized skilled nursing processes in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, and Pediatrics of Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC).

Distinguishing Characteristics:
The Per Diem Nurse is distinguished from the Registered Nurse classification in that Per Diem Nurses are scheduled to work on an as-needed basis (intermittent) to supplement staffing needs.

BILINGUAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for bilingual incentive depending on the applicable memorandum of agreement and the needs of the department. In order to qualify for this incentive, incumbents in eligible positions must take and pass the applicable bilingual fluency examination.

EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE: Some positions may be eligible for educational incentive pay in addition to the adjusted base rate of pay in the noted amounts for educational attainments which are not specifically required for the classification:
Bachelor's Degree $1.25/hr
Graduate's Degree $1.75/hr

Payroll Title: Per Diem Registered Nurse III

Per Diem Registered Nurse III is represented by the California Nurse's Association (CNA) and is eligible for overtime compensation. Salary placement will be determined according to the current CNA Per Diem Unit memorandum of agreement.

The eligible list established from this recruitment may be used to fill current and future Per Diem and Intermittent vacancies within the Pediatric Acute Care Unit. There is currently one (1) Per Diem vacancy within Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC).

TENTATIVE SCHEDULE
OPENING DATE: 9/23/24
CLOSING DATE: 10/7/24Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

Utilizes nursing process, plans and participates in providing daily patient care.
Follows prescribed doctors' orders concerning treatments and medications.
Collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to provide holistic care for patient population.
Makes patient observations, records and reports all pertinent information.
Provides follow-through on judgement within the scope of accepted nursing practice.
Assists doctors in examination and treatment.
Participates in family meetings to provide continuity and support.
Provides unit organization and is responsible for completion of all delegated and indicated nursing duties by the end of the assigned shift.
Assists in training, supervision and evaluation of ancillary personnel and in the training of new personnel.
Conducts data gathering and analysis.
Performs other related duties as required.

These are entrance requirements to the examination process and assure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.

Education, Training, and Experience:

Per Diem Registered Nurse III - requires at least five (5) years of professional registered nursing experience. These employees may be appointed to work on specialized short-term projects such as hospital accreditation or on other projects that require specialized administrative duties and responsibilities.

Necessary Special Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing.
Must possess and maintain a current valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California, or licensure in another state with California licensure pending.
Must possess and maintain current, valid Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) certification OR Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
Must possess and maintain current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification by first day of employment.
Successful completion of the Health Care Agency Pharmacology examination within three (3) months of employment is mandatory.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of:

Theory, techniques, and practices of professional nursing
Medical terminology and hospital routine and equipment
Medicines and narcotics
Working with children

Working ability to:

Plan and organize nursing care
Train and supervise non-professional staff.
Establish and maintain confidence of patients and staff.
Work effectively in different hospital departments on shifts as required
