8741 Clinical Inservice EducationThe purpose of the position is to provide ongoing assessment of staff member educational needs. Through utilization of adult learning principles, to strategically design, implement and evaluate educational offerings that meet the needs of care providers.

Preferred: Experience in nursing education, staff development, curriculum development and implementation of multifaceted teaching interventions to varying adult learning styles.

Ability to present formal and informal educational offerings.
Department Specific Requirements
If assigned to Administration-APN: The two years of recent clinical experience must be as a Registered Nurse in acute care setting. CA Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) within three years of date of hire/transfer.
If assigned to Skilled Nursing: Must meet the state and federal requirements for designation as a State of California Director of Staff Development (DSD) within two years of hire/transfer. Minimum of one year experience as a licensed nurse in providing direct patient care in a long term care/skilled nursing facility (SNF) and must also possess a minimum of one year experience in planning and successfully orchestrating and evaluating educational programs for nursing; or must have two years experience as a licensed nurse, with a minimum of at least one year which must be in the clinical setting providing direct patient care.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential
Collaborates with department leadership and Director of Clinical Education to ensure competency of staff. Provides ongoing assessment of learning needs for all staff members. Plans, coordinates and evaluates the education programs provided and conducts annual needs assessment.
Develops and implements department orientation for all staff members. Provides a written orientation plan and skills checklist for each new employee. Collaborates with management to schedule new staff with mentor/preceptor, communicating learner's needs and goals. Provides input to manager for employee's introductory and/or annual review.
Identifies the need for in-service training and continuing education through annual needs assessment, observation, Performance Improvement (PI), Risk Management reports, professional practice trends and patient population. Training programs are developed to ensure staff competence when procedures or practices are changed or new ones are developed. Monitors competence of staff.
Provides competency assessment records and educational calendar to Human Resources as appropriate. Maintains records, file and statistics as appropriate. Submits information to Director of Clinical Education as requested.
Reviews and updates reference materials for staff, patients and physicians as appropriate.
Coordinates the development and/or revision of new standards/policies/procedures.
Conducts Annual Educational Needs Assessment for assigned unit(s).
Provides a monthly in-service topic and as needed additional Kaweah Health educational training to department staff.
Maintains clinical competence in area of specialty. Provides direct patient care as assigned.
Promotes a positive working relationship with physicians, colleagues, vendors, guests and others.
Collaborates with Director of Clinical Education and/or area Director and managers as appropriate.
Addendum (essential for specific dept)
IF ASSIGNED TO SKILLED NURSING, DSD ALSO RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Directs and provides patient care that will include activities such as, but not limited to, medication administration, tracheotomy care, tube feeding and care, admission and discharge of patients from the facility, care planning, and on-going nursing assessment for individualized care. Plans, implements, and evaluates continuing education courses and in-service education. Reviews and revises orientation tools for newly hired staff members. Organizes, develops and evaluates orientation plans for newly hired staff members. Provides ongoing education to staff members based upon learning needs assessment.
Additional
Participates in assigned intradepartmental and Kaweah Health wide committees. Coordinates department meetings as appropriate. Actively participates in planning and implementation of annual competency fair. Participates/coordinates PI projects as directed.
Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and services appropriate to the population served on the assigned unit or work area. Knowledgeable of growth and development for all patient/family cultural, linguistic, spiritual, gender, and age specific needs. Able to effectively communicate and care for patient and family as reflected in the Plan for Provision of Care.
