Patient Care Nurse Assistant (PCNA) - Pre- and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU

The Pre- and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) at Fairview Hospital consists of four separate areas on two hospital nursing floors and is inclusive of pre-anesthesia care as well as post-anesthesia care. The pre-anesthesia care areas are designed to prepare patients for surgery, while the post-anesthesia care areas provide post-operative care to general, orthopedic, vascular, thoracic and pediatric patients. Additionally, the post-anesthesia care areas also provide post-procedure monitoring for endoscopy and interventional radiology patients. Our PACU nursing staff works diligently and collaboratively with Fairview Hospital’s anesthesia providers to effectively manage patients’ post-operative pain and nausea symptoms.

A caregiver in this position works between the hours of 6:00am-4:30p

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

Provide or assist with patient care under the supervision of an RN. Patient care may include vital signs, weight, assisting patients with personal care and activities of daily living, patient transfers/transport, pulse oximetry, point of care testing, dressing changes, applying external monitoring devices and removing urinary Foley catheter.

Report abnormal findings or changes in physical, mental and emotional conditions to an RN.

Assist with keeping patients’ rooms clean and orderly.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

A high school diploma or GED.

Nursing students: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).

Military experience as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be considered.

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it during your new hire period.

State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA).

Physical Requirements:

Requires full body motion to move and lift patients, manual finger dexterity with good eye-hand coordination; involves extensive standing and walking.
Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

Personal Protective Equipment:

Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
