Description

Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician and/or nurse practitioner. Assists professional staff in the provision of care by preparing patients to be seen by the physician and/or nurse practitioner, and perform specific procedures with appropriate orientation and supervision. Interviews patients, measures vital signs (i.e. pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height) and records information on patients’ charts. May be required to collect blood samples, tissue or other laboratory specimens, and prepare them for testing. Explains treatment procedures, medications, diets and physicians instructions to patients. Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean. Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures related to the practice. Follows standard procedures and/or written instructions to perform the job duties. Demonstrates teamwork to ensure achievement of team, individual, and corporate goals. Provides support to team members and performs other duties as required.

Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School graduate, or equivalent

Experience: Graduate from an accredited or governed Medical Assistant program or must have passed Medical Assistant Certification.

NOTE: During an acquisition, the organization’s medical assistant associates must have two years of on the job training, if not a graduate of a formal program or passed Medical Assistant Certification.

Skills: Good oral and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, physicians and staff members. Ability to interpret and follow oral and written instructions, policies, guidelines and standards. Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively. Intermediate Proficiency level with Microsoft Office: Word and Excel.
