Job Description:
Job Summary: The RN Clinical Instructor is accountable to the Distance Learning Program leadership for the implementation of the approved curriculum based on the mission and philosophy of the JPS Health Network and partner College/University Nursing Program. The RN Clinical Instructor PT is an adjunct faculty for the partner College/ University who provides students with opportunities to acquire the knowledge and practice the skills identified in course objectives. This includes using varied and appropriate teaching methods in the classroom, skills lab, and bedside settings.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
- Provides clinical instruction to students in the Distance Learning Program at JPS Health Network, adhering to the policies of the Network, clinical setting, and the partner College or University.
- Discusses with students any concerns and/or problems directly or indirectly related to the learning experience.
- Assists students to develop an understanding of values, attitudes, and ideals appropriate to the Nursing profession.
- Establishes and maintains relationships with clinical units.
- Participates in JPS department meetings, partner College or University faculty meetings (both formally and informally) with didactic and clinical faculty members.
- Develops clinical lesson plans and provides clinical, classroom and skills lab instruction.
- Supervises student groups in clinical areas (maintains presence in the facility during entire student clinical time, unless assigned a preceptor).
- Leads discussions and elicits information from students which demonstrates that students are learning and accomplishing the clinical objectives.
- Maintains clinical standards and course expectations throughout each course or term.
- Evaluates and grades student performance. Meets with students at mid-term for formal evaluation and again at the end of the course to discuss progress and performance.
- Works effectively as part of the overall faculty team demonstrating positive interpersonal relations; collaborates with other faculty members to meet student needs; participates in Nursing Program committees; and responds to requests from Distance Learning Program leadership.
- Maintains faculty expectations as required by the partner College or University and the Board of Nursing.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Masters of Science in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing.
- 4 plus years nursing experience in clinical specialty area(s): Medical/Surgical, Critical Care, Maternal/Child Health, Pediatrics or Behavioral Health.
- Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state. Must be maintained throughout employment.
- Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and must be maintained throughout employment.
- Completion of job specific orientation program within 30 days of employment.
