Salary: $102,000.00-110,000.00
POSITION SUMMARY
The Head Nurse must provide general supervision, organization and direction to the work of the Nursing Units and programs; coordinate staff to assure that effective nursing services are provided, and quality standards are met; develop maintain an environment that supports the professional nurse and staff.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
1. Assumes responsibilities for coordination of patient/family centered care by ensuring daily staff huddles, RN/physician rounding and attendance at weekly multidisciplinary plan of care meetings.
3. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, staff meetings, In-services, workshops, and successful completion and maintenance of required certifications.
4. Assumes responsibility for coordination and delivery of 24/7 nursing care on designated unit(s) calling for productivity hours.
5. Interdepartmental liaison for designated unit, medical staff, ancillary and support staff.
6. Ensures compliance with Federal and Territorial regulatory agencies including the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
7. Demonstrates ability to evaluate and determine levels of nursing care with respect to collective bargaining agreements and JFL Human Resources Policy and Procedures.
8. Develops, coordinates and implements process improvements initiatives and new programs/services using JFL’s designated process improvement methodology.
9. Acts as community resource for services and information to patients, families and physicians.
10. Demonstrates knowledge of age specific care, including but not limited to, identifying the need for additional safety measures, physiological normal values/readings; and assessing skin integrity, behavior, motor skill and activities that place patients at risk.
11. Maintains confidentiality of patient’s personal health information and department information.
12. Oversees the provision of adequate staff for nursing personnel for all shifts compilation and maintenance of the staffing schedules and staffing forms. Refers to established unit staffing plans based on national or hospital based established benchmarks.
13. Collaborates with Human Resources to ensure roster of nursing personnel for designated unit(s) and contact information remains current.
14. Oversees and participates in care delivery within designated nursing unit(s) as they serve as patient advocates and clinical resources in the coordination and delivery of patient care; assures adherence to approved practices, procedures, and standard of care
15. Participates in organizational leadership through attendance at hospital committees and task forces; promotion of employees; job satisfaction and retention especially new graduate nurses
16. Ensures quality patient care and patient flow as a strategic initiative using bed board forum
17. Promotes a culture of safety and a just culture that encourages the identification and communication of problems regarding ethical issues that may surface between professionals and patients.
18. Promotes professional environments that yields respect for patients’ and employee rights and sensitivity to patients’ and employee comfort and privacy (confidentiality). Acts as patient and employee advocate.
19. Promotes a culture of sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and behaviors that recognizes cultural and religious diversity.
20. Provides leadership, direction and guidance to assigned staff
21. Coordinates and maintains the required training and skills of staff
22. Implements corrective actions and conducts performance evaluations.
23. Effectively addresses personnel issues in order to promote a productive and healthy work environment
24. Performs other duties as assigned or required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Please List Education/Experience/Credentials)
1. Must possess a current Virgin Islands license as a Registered Nurse and have graduated with a Bachelor of Science from a Nursing Program or evidence of continuing education towards requirements.
2. Two years of experience in nursing administration; with evidence of continuing education directly related to the job specifications.
3. Must possess and demonstrate a high degree of leadership, organizational ability, and communication skills. Knowledge of adult inpatient care management, policies, budgeting, personnel management, and census development is required. Current BLS (ACLS, PALS and Nonviolent crisis Intervention (or related course) certification is preferred.
4. Utilizes the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice and the Code of Ethics for nurses with Interpretive Statements as the foundation for nursing practice.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
1. Knowledge of the policies, procedures, rules and regulations that apply to the practice in an inpatient care setting.
2. Provide departmental leadership, training/delegation of training of new employees and ongoing education and training of all departmental staff.
3. General knowledge of health services and programs offered through JFLH in order to coordinate and obtain services requested.
4. Ability to make presentations before management, public groups, and staff.
5. Ability to (or possess the skill level to gain ability to) define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; also apply mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
6. Ability to work with a wide variety of other professionals and staff engaged in the delivery of health care services.
