Job Summary and Qualifications
Position Summary: This position supports the mission of The Medical Center of Aurora/Centennial Medical Plaza of optimizing quality of life of all those served by expanding beyond the traditional focus on medical needs to the needs of the whole person. The Oncology/Palliative Care Coordinator (OPCC) exemplifies professional nursing practice through expert education, consultation, research, practice, and management/leadership activities. The OPCC is a leading nurse expert in oncology and palliative care across all settings, and acts a resource for colleagues within the hospital as well as outside agencies. In a collaborative manner, the OPCC leads in the design, implementation, and evaluation of new programs, projects, and systems regarding care of medical and surgical oncology patients as well as other patients populations that require palliative care support. The individual will be responsible for clinical oversight of the Oncology staff to include education and mentorship, Resource for areas of pain and symptom management in coordination with Palliative Care Physician or PCP, Coordinates care including patient/family conferences, Develop a referral process for appropriate access for a consultation, Assist in navigating patients to the correct care setting in collaboration with other health care providers, Create care plans with caregivers that expedite treatment that reduces patient/ anxiety, reduce LOS in ICU, and matches the patient needs with the appropriate health care resources, Clinical oversight of Oncology Program to include leadership responsibilities and education

Position Requirements:
A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: RN License in the State of Colorado. Compact license acceptable but must obtain Colorado RN License within 90 days of hire. BLS from AHA or ARC, Certification in Palliative Care required; OCN or CHPN required
B. Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. Masters Degree preferred;
C. Experience: Minimum 5 years of recent clinical nursing experience in oncology services; 5 years of leadership experience;
D. Special Qualifications: Demonstrates good organizational skills, ability to plan and provide for delivery of programming and education to nursing and non-nursing personnel, and excellent physician relations. Demonstrates knowledge and competence in working with interdisciplinary teams to ensure completion of projects. Must have effective verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to articulate and demonstrate knowledge of adult learning principles, nursing theory, nursing standards and practice and educational design and delivery. Proficiency in computer skills and presentation skills highly recommended. Strong critical thinking skills a must.
