The Alaska Veterans & Pioneers Home (AVPH)
is recruiting for an On-Call, Non-Permanent Licensed Practical Nurse
located in Palmer, Alaska
as part of the General Government Bargaining Unit
to fill-in and work as needed.

This position is a member of an outstanding nursing and direct care staff and plays a vital role in providing person-centered care and support in a safe environment for up to seventy-nine (79) elder residents.

What You Will Be Doing:
Provide high-quality care to assisted living home residents in a warm, supportive, and caring manner. This position will perform a full range of nursing duties requiring established knowledge of nursing principles and procedures. This position provides clinical and medication administration to residents and clinical support to the care teams. Focus will be on quality resident care, the growth, development, and empowerment of health care teams, and the promotion of assisted living philosophy and statutes.

This job is located in the Alaska Veterans & Pioneers Home, at 250 E Fireweed Ave in Palmer, Alaska; part of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. The home is near parks and surrounded by beautiful views of the Chugach and Talkeetna Mountain Ranges, the massive Knik Glacier, and is within walking distance to shops and restaurants.

- Considerable knowledge and skill of the principles and practices of nursing, behavior, and needs of patients.
- Ability to observe and evaluate reactions and changes in the physical behavioral and mental condition of patients and to think and act quickly in emergencies.
- Ability to develop therapeutic relationships with patients.
- Ability to administer treatments and medications and observe for and report adverse reactions.
- Ability to maintain records and to prepare clear, concise reports.

- This position is in support of the Pioneer Home, which is a 24-hour facility.
- This Pioneer Home is an Eden Alternative facility, where the environment includes contact with plants, flowers, and pets including cats, dogs, fish, and birds.
- Employees of the Pioneer Home receive continual screening for tuberculosis and criminal history.

A diploma or certificate from an accredited school in practical nursing and eligibility for licensure as a practical nurse with the State of Alaska.
Special Requirements: Physical strength to lift, assist and transfer patients.
Special Note:Applicants who have or obtain a temporary permit issued under 12 AAC 44.320 may report for duty; however, the job offer will remain conditional, for a timeframe not to exceed six months, pending the applicant showing proof of licensure during their initial probationary period.
Some positions may require the successful applicant to pass a background investigation, including fingerprinting, as a prerequisite to employment. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.
Some positions may require the successful applicant to provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire. Employees are required to be tested annually. These requirements will be indicated at the time of recruitment.
At time of interview, applicant must provide:
- Two (2) professional references (including work/supervisor-related) and three (3) character references (personal) with current contact information.
If selected and prior to hire, applicant will be asked to:
- Submit to fingerprinting and criminal background check screening.
- Provide current evidence to be free from active pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) with test results dated within the last 12 months prior to start date.
- Provide a copy of current CPR and First Aid certificate(s), if available.
