Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN): Complete comprehensive evaluations of patients according to medical guidelines; health status evaluations, formulations, diagnoses, and detailed treatment plans; make referrals for further diagnostic medical testing as needed; provide, pharmacologic therapeutic interventions as necessary; maintain documentation, records, and reports in accordance with prevailing rules, regulations and standards. All activities of the Nurse Practitioner shall be in accordance with State and Federal standards and Medical Staff Bylaws pertaining to Allied Health Professionals. Reports to Director of HealthCare Professionals. Provides supervision to registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, nurse coordinator and medical assistants for HealthCare Professionals.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
Functions as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in a family practice physician clinic. Completes comprehensive evaluations of patients according to medical guidelines; health status evaluations, formulations, diagnoses, and detailed treatment plans; make referrals for further diagnostic medical testing as needed; provide, pharmacologic therapeutic intervention and management as necessary.
- Prioritizes and clinically manages patients with medical care needs through proper diagnostic testing, eliciting pertinent medical and psycho-social history including: patient profile, chief complaint, history and review of body systems.
- Perform a physical examination as pertinent, modifying the examination for the nature of complaint or problem, age/sex of patient and physical condition of patient.
- Uses systematic reviews of clinical research, quality improvement/outcome data, and unique patient and system variables to establish evidence-based, best clinical practices.
- Completes comprehensive medical record documentation to comply with regulatory guidelines.
Functions as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in a family practice physician clinic. Completes comprehensive evaluations of patients according to medical guidelines; health status evaluations, formulations, diagnoses, and detailed treatment plans.
- Willingness to seek supervision when necessary.
- Differentiates between normal and abnormal information obtained from history, physical and screening examinations for all age groups (Adult, Pediatric, Obstetrical, Newborn and Geriatric).
- Performs cannulations, musculoskeletal and pulmonary therapies when appropriate.
- Performs eye, ear, nose and throat therapies when appropriate.
- Administers medications, performs cardiovascular therapies for treatment/assessment of non threatening arrhythmias, gynecological interventions, perform minor surgical therapies/procedures.
- Initiate appropriate management for emergency situations until physician is available.
- Assumes responsibility and is responsive when on call.
Functions as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in a family practice physician clinic. Provides patient education and counseling services when appropriate.
- Competent in explaining patient's condition/disease its etiology, course and prognosis.
- Explains treatment rational, side affects, risks, and special instructions.
- Identifies mental health problems though accepted techniques and counsels patients concerning non-referral type mental health problems. Support and counsel family in dealing with patient's condition.
- Instructs patient, family and community about health related topics, preventive health care and self care.

Education
- Successful completion of an approved advanced practice registered nurse program; must have a master's degree, post-master's certificate, or doctoral degree with preparation as an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner required.
- Specialization in Family Practice Medicine preferred.
License/Certifications
- Current valid Registered Nurse (RN) license, valid compact multistate license to work in Nebraska or Iowa (work state), or a temporary permit while awaiting licensure required.
- Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the State of Nebraska required.
- Prescriptive authority in Nebraska and Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certification required.
Experience
- A minimum of two years experience in healthcare required.
- Experience as a Nurse Practitioner. Management experience preferred.
Skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate actively with health professionals of various disciplines and function as a team member; skill in the diagnosis and treatment of a variety of disease in the practice of family medicine; able to complete a clear and comprehensive diagnostic assessment and concise notes for patient records; must have basic computer skills preferred.
- Public speaking; volunteerism preferred.
