Job Summary: The RN Clinical Nurse is a proactive member of an interdisciplinary team of licensed and unlicensed care givers who ensure patients, families, and significant others receive individualized high quality, safe patient care. The Clinical Nurse is responsible for performing a wide variety of clinical procedures requiring independent judgement, ingenuity, and initiative in the utilization of the equipment for the diagnosis and/or treatment of diseases. They practice in a clinical environment that is administered by Nurse Managers and other leaders and is supported through the WellStar Shared Governance Model. The framework for practice is steered by the WellStar Professional Practice Model, 5-Star Nursing and evidence-based practice and research. RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the WellStar Core Competencies. It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses are licensed, knowledgeable, able to function independently, and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implements the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association. As a member of the patient services team, it is expected that the individual upholds the voice of the patient, system policies and procedures, while supporting service excellence goals.
Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: - Clinical Skills a. Provides care during the ante-, intra-, and post-partum periods of pregnancy, labor, and delivery b. Performs the Nursing Process (assessment; diagnosis; identification of outcomes; planning; implementation and evaluation) in the performance of clinical care using evidence base practice and ensuring care is individualized; coordinating care through effective partnerships recognizing that caring is central to achieve optimal patient care outcomes c. Able to use critical thinking skills d. Able to deliver patient care in complex, multiple problem patient care situations e. Administers patient medications per system policy and procedure f. Performs required pre-procedure preparation and safety checks g. Demonstrates and understands sterile technique h. Demonstrates IV administration competence and maintenance i. Partners with the patient and significant other (as appropriate) using appropriate method for setting and purpose (e.g., bedside shift report; interdisciplinary rounds; just in time and planned patient teaching; keeping the patient and significant others updated and making the patients goals the focus of the plan of care. - Quality and Patient Safety a. Verifies patient ID using 2 patient identifiers, i.e. Armband, DOB, verbal identification b. Verifies front of patient chart for same/similar name sticker c. Verifies Written Order(s), seeks clarification is unclear d. Understands and complies with verbal order RBAC and performs necessary follow-up with written order e. Completes preprocedural verification/time out f. Upholds all health care system/organizational policies and procedures and clinical competencies put forth by this job description and professional association including legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements and standards ensuring by way of example, such goals as TJC Patient Safety Goals and WellStar Health Systems safety absolutes - Job Responsibilities a. Must be flexible with hours to meet department needs b. Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessment, required mandatory education, population specific education. c. Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration by practicing in a manner that is fiscally responsible and promotes the recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members d. Serves as a preceptor and/or or mentor for other professional nurses (and staff or students for all disciplines) to ensure that there is a current and future qualified workforce; modeling the professional practice of nursing and creating a healthy work environment e. Knows existing lines of communication and authority, handles communications properly and is dependable, cooperative, and emotionally stable. f. Introduces self to patient, significant other, family and/or guardian utilizing proper scripting g. Transports patients as needed h. Provides privacy and comfort for patient i. Answers department phone using proper scripting j. Performs QA/QC functions as needed k. Maintains current successful completion of BLS, ACLS, and NRP l. Participates in in-service/training/staff meetings for LD staff as appropriate m. Meets Service Recovery and Customer Service Guidelines as needed. n. Performs daily emergency and in-room checks - Patient Education a. Responsible for patient, family/support system education b. Provides post procedural home care instructions as needed.
Required Minimum Education: Diploma from an accredited nursing program in nursing or graduate of accredited/approved school of Nursing Required or Bachelor's Degree BSN Preferred
Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
- Reg Nurse (Single State) or RN - Multi-state Compact
- Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor
- Neonatal Resuscitation Prvdr or NRP - Instructor or NRP-Provisional
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ACLS - Provisional or ACLS - Instructor
Additional License(s) and Certification(s): National certification in area of specialty Preferred
Required Minimum Experience: Minimum 2 years direct patient care nursing experience Required
Required Minimum Skills: Ability to read, write and speak English language, optimize the use of technology to support clinical care and holds basic computer skills; Strong interpersonal, collaborative skills along with customer service skills required; Ability to function in a fast paced environment and respond to emergencies in using a decisive, composed and respectful manner; Possess excellent time management skills; practices nursing using evidence and analytical skills Possess strong critical thinking skills.
