Job Responsibilities
- Working in contract role in a local acute facility for a designated time period (usually 10-15 weeks)
- Providing excellent and evidence-based oncology nursing care to patients with hematological malignancies and blood cancers
- Administering prescribed treatments and medications, and assisting in and conducting procedures as ordered and within scope of practice
- Following hospital protocols for safely administering chemotherapy, immunotherapy (biotherapy), blood products, hydration, and supportive medications
- Accessing and managing venous access devices (peripheral lines, PICC lines, implanted ports, Hickman catheters, etc.)
- Monitoring and identifying arrhythmias on telemetry and responding to urgent and emergent situations
- Collaborating with physicians, advanced practice practitioners (APPS), and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive care
- Maintaining detailed and accurate documentation in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Advocating for patients' needs and ensuring their rights, safety, and dignity are upheld
- Providing education to patients and their families regarding their conditions and treatment plans
- Managing crises, unexpected events, and multiple patients simultaneously while ensuring a calm and organized response
- Being accountable to follow and adhere to the Patient Care Plan as defined
Qualifications and Skills
- Current Virginia state Registered Nurse (RN) license (Compact allowed)
- Associate or bachelor's (preferred) degree in nursing from an ACEN- or CCNE-accredited school
- Active ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Administration Certification
- Minimum of 8 months experience working as an Oncology RN
- Telemetry experience
- American Heart Association (AHA) certification for Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers
- Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
