JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse accepts responsibility, authority, and accountability for the management and provision of care given to patients by self or others who are under their supervision and in accordance with UVA Health’s policies and procedures and scope of practice. The Registered Nurse serves as a leader of the healthcare team by establishing an authentic personalized relationship with the patient and their chosen support system, collaborating with physicians and other team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate an individualized plan of care that promotes optimal health.
This position requires providing services to all age populations in a manner that demonstrates an understanding of the functional/developmental age of the individuals served.
Patient Care: Responsible for practicing safely within the defined standards of practice.
- Independently assess, monitor, prioritize, coordinate and implement plan of care for patients.
- Conducts comprehensive assessments, initial and ongoing
- Initiates administer, and titrate both routine and complex medications
- Performs education with patients about the plan of care
- Delegates appropriate tasks to both LPN’s and ULP’s
- Handles and administers hazardous medications
Communication: Communicates effectively and professionally with all members of the interdisciplinary team, patients, medical providers and all levels of healthcare.
- Conveys information accurately to physicians, nurses, and other team members, as well as listen and respond to the needs and concerns of patients and colleagues
- Utilizes appropriate communication tools such as Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation, and Question (SBARQ) when communicating within the interdisciplinary team.
- Documents appropriate information in a timely manner.
Teamwork: Willing to share responsibilities, support their teammates, and work together to achieve common goals.
- Organizes and prioritizes daily work assignments to support patient needs, the interdisciplinary team, and operational efficiency.
- Demonstrates teamwork in the delivery of patient care. Recognizes the importance of time sensitive issues.
Nursing Practice: Practices within the boundaries of the regulations governing the practice of nursing in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Engages in continuous learning and professional development activities to stay current with advancements and best practices in ambulatory care.
- Possesses clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards as required by specific clinical areas
- Contributes to the development of practice guiding resources (policies, procedures, guidelines, protocol orders, etc.)
The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Completion of a nursing program as approved by the State Board of Nursing.
Experience: Minimum of 1 year of nursing experience required.
Licensure: Applicable state RN license required.
Additional Skills/Requirements Required: BLS required.
Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Knowledge of OSHA guidelines and Universal Precautions protocol.
