About ECU Health Chowan Hospital
ECU Health Chowan Hospital in Edenton is a 25-bed critical access hospital which provides programs and services to 110,000 people in 6 counties. The facility offers medical and surgical services, including intensive care, a specialty care clinic and a dedicated outpatient surgery area with endoscopy capabilities. A 7-bed emergency department serves approximately 15,000 patients per year and team members at the facility have access to a telemedicine link with the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.
Position Summary
The Nursing Assistant performs specific responsibilities under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse. Functions within the framework of the NAI listing granted by the NC Department of Health and Human Services. Practices within the philosophy and goals of patient care services.
Responsibilities
1.Participates in Quality Improvement (QI) Activities: Participates in problem solving resolution activities and identifies opportunities for improvement to change behavior. Participates in data collection. Employs safe practices, infection control, and fire and disaster regulations. Participates in cost savings activities.
2.Participates in Education: Attends and utilizes staff development programs and educational resources to meet unit objectives and/or individual objectives. Fulfills annual mandatory educational requirements. Participates in the orientation of new staff and students, as delegated by the supervising RN.
3.Follows hospital and unit based policies and procedures: Provides quality patient care. Maintains familiarity with job description and legal implications of role. Maintains active NAI licensure/certification.
4.Builds interpersonal relations and communications. Listens to the ideas, opinions, and feelings of others. Gives and receives constructive feedback. Recognizes and intervenes when personal conflicts have the potential to interfere with patient care or team relationships. Works effectively with others in a team environment. Demonstrates behaviors and attitudes that are respectful or others, and fosters enhanced communication and teamwork. Seeks help and utilizes chain of command appropriately.
5.Makes unit, department and hospital contributions: Participates in unit goal setting. Assists in cost-effective use of equipment and supplies.
6.Under the supervision of the licensed nurse, assists in providing direct patient care and completes delegated skills and task as ascribed by North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
Minimum Requirements
High School or GED is preferred - or higher.
NAI listing with NC Department of Health and Human Services is required.
Experience in a comparable facility can only be substituted for NA I course by successful completion of challenge exam acceptable to the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services is required.
Current American Heart Association HeartSaver certification is required.
Preferred Requirements
-1+ years prior experience in acute hospital
-1+ years prior experience in skilled care/nursing home
-1+ years prior experience in home health
Other Information
Location: ECU Health Bertie and Chowan Hospital Wound Clinics
Shift: 4 and 8 hour shifts as needed to assist with Wound Clinics. Bertie and Chowan coverage is required.
This is a PRN position. Minimum requirement of one 12hr shift per 6 week period.
