DESCRIPTION

Inpatient Nursing Shift House Supervisor has responsibility for nursing activities on shift. Serves as administrative resource person for hospital administration and nursing administration throughout shift. Serves as clinical resource person and provides clinical support for all areas of inpatient nursing during shift. Collaborates with nurse managers and charge nurses in planning on-shift and incoming shift staffing.
Hires new employees, screens applications, interviews candidates. Prepares and conducts annual performance appraisals. Trains and assigns work to new and existing employees within the department. Makes recommendations concerning merit increases and classification reviews. Performs disciplinary action, up to dismissal, in consultation with HR/LR. Represents the department or organization in grievance hearing, administrative review process, or arbitration.
Leads quality of care activities as appropriate to the individual's position, education and practice environment; safety programs; advocates and adheres to the ANA code of ethics for nurses; supports and promotes evidence based practice teams; identifies nursing sensitive indicators at the unit level; supports and directs data collection; demonstrates adherence and promotion of customer service improvement activities in all patient, family and staff interactions; assures currency in licensure and annual mandated regulatory competencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
BSN required.
Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.
Current ART or BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.
Five (5+) or more years of relevant experience, including at least three (3) years of recent working RN experience in an acute care environment.
Must have demonstrated leadership experience in an acute care setting. Strong decision making, problem solving and prioritizing skills.
Proven hospital management skills, with progressive expertise in patient care services.
Knowledge to manage disaster incidents, sentinel events and ability to problem solve with critical thinking skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of The Joint Commission (TJC) accreditation regulations.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills to manage multiple levels of information and responsibilities, and to quickly assess moderately-complex problems to develop potential solutions.
Must be able to function in a fast-paced environment, have excellent interpersonal andcommunication skills, and consistently demonstrate empathy and kindness to all staff and patients.
Must have excellent skills to communicate and influence effectively with all levels of staff,physicians, patients and external constituents, both verbally and in writing.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- MSN
- Clinical area specialty certification or Nursing Administration Certification.
- Recent ED, ICU and/or NP experience.
- Lean Six Sigma training.
- Recent or current RN experience at UC San Diego Health.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
- Must be able to work various hours, days, shifts, on-call and locations based on the 24-hour Medical Center's business needs.
- Must be available to work overtime as needed.
- Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
Pay Transparency Act
Annual Full Pay Range: $116,000 - $252,200 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $55.56 - $120.79
Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
