Job Summary:
MaineGeneral is seeking a dedicated Charge Nurse to join our team on 3 South, our inpatient behavioral health unit at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta. This state-of-the-art unit was designed with the input of staff and patients and is a unique environment sustaining safe, innovative, and supportive care.
Job Description:
$15,000 sign-on bonus potential for experienced RNs
- Must have three years of behavioral health RN experience.
- Must accept at least a 30-hour-per-week position.
- Current MaineGeneral employees are ineligible; former MaineGeneral employees are ineligible until greater than 6 months of separation from employment.
The Role: Behavioral Health Charge Nurse (RN)
As a behavioral health charge nurse, you will play a crucial role in managing the nursing staff and operations within our behavioral health unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing nursing leadership, ensuring high standards of patient care, providing clinical support to the nursing team, and maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements.
What You'll Do:
- Supervises and mentors nursing and support staff during assigned shifts.
- Determines staffing level and assignments based on staff availability, staff abilities, census, and patient acuity in a fiscally responsible manner.
- Provides direct patient care as needed. Floats between staff to assist with problem-solving. May take patient assignments to meet staffing needs.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes. Responds to complaints about patient care and related services, and manage through established channels. Collaborates patient care as needed, across the organization.
- Performs responsibilities of the underlying role, including entering orders, performing admissions or discharges, and coordinating transfers. Ensures staff has the necessary equipment and supplies to provide safe and effective patient care.
Your Qualifications:
- A valid state of Maine RN license or ability to obtain same in a timely fashion; (required)
- At least 3 years of acute care RN experience serving this patient population; (preferred)
- BLS and MOAB (preferred)
- Critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to operate and excel in a health care environment with many inherent stressors.
