Job Summary and Qualifications
POSITION SUMMARY:
To provide patient care under the direction of the RN, using the nursing process, in accordance with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of Las Palmas Medical Center. The OR Technologist works under the direct supervision of the circulator nurse assigned to a case. The OR Technologist under the direction of the Charge Nurse assists with the orientation and education of OR Technologist, he/she also assist with the maintenance of proper inventory of supplies needed for their specialty. Responsibilities also include timely reporting, to the Charge Nurse/L&D Director, any equipment issues, supplies and instrumentation concerns as expressed to them by the physician. His/Her duties include preparing for the surgical and vaginal deliveries by collecting the needed supplies, instrumentation and equipment to perform the delivery/surgery. He/She prepares for the delivery by setting up the room and opening cases, and disposing of used instruments and supplies after the procedure is completed. The OR Technologist assists the physicians during surgery and vaginal deliveries by setting up the surgical procedure or delivery with all needed supplies, instruments and equipment. Responsibilities include handling the sterile instruments and equipment needed to facilitate the surgery or delivery. The OR Technologist responsibilities also include proper care of handling of instruments postoperatively for transport to Sterile Processing and replacing supplies to proper storage.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Demonstrates knowledge and application of sterile technique, instruments and supplies needed for surgical cases.
- Communicates, interacts and participates in teamwork on the unit.
- Practices, endorses and provides customer service skills to patients, visitors, physicians and staff.
- Demo knowledge and respect of the patients’ right to privacy and protection of patient confidentiality.
- Communicates and participate in patient care activates in direct conjunction with the Registered Nurse.
- Works directly under the delegation and supervision of the Charge Nurse/L&D Director to assist with the orientation and education of Surgical Technologist.
- Assist with the maintenance of proper inventory of supplies needed for their specialty.
- Maintains responsibility for timely reporting to the Charge Nurse/L&D Director any equipment issues, supplies and instrumentation concerns as expressed by the physician.
- Works directly under the supervision of the circulator nurse assigned to the case to ensure all suppleues, equipemtne and instrumentation needed to perform assigned procedures, as per physician’s preference card, are gathered prior to the start of the case.
- Assist Circulator nurse in the preparation.
What qualifications you will need:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support
- Certified Surgical Technician (CST)
- High School Graduate / GED
