What You'll Do:
As a Nurse Manager, you will carry out our Mission of Love by being responsible for a large group of employees, to include supervisors/coordinators that may cover several functional areas. You will assign and schedule work and employees. Determine staffing needs and be responsible for employment, recommending termination of staff, conducting performance reviews, and determining salary with Human Resources assistance. You will coach and counsel employees and act as a liaison between departments. For assigned resident care units, you will be accountable for planning and managing services for geriatric and dementia residents and their families.
Our Nurse Manager is responsible for the following:
- Assists with admission screening process for potential Dementia Unit residents.
- Responsible for providing dementia education for employees caring for dementia residents.
- Participates in support groups and educational sessions for families and care givers.
- Contributes to the comprehensive planning process annually and ongoing and obtains achievable objectives connected to appropriate goals and guided by the mission of Masonic Village.
- Assist in the preparation of financial budgets for respective areas of responsibility. Collaborates with the DON/ADON for budget development. Accountable for financial and operational performance for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Upholds expectations of performance development plan (customized and developed in collaboration with the DON/ADON).
- Accountable for assuring an appropriate staffing schedule for relevant nursing personnel.
- Collaborates with DON/ADON regarding nursing staff recruitment, interviews, and prospective employees and participates in the selection process. Disciplines or recommends termination of employment of nursing personnel from their area of responsibility.
- Supports the Safety Services & Risk management Department including reviewing and investigating employee incident and accident reports.
- Assures timely completion of performance appraisals for all LPNs and CNAs. Seek input from the shift coordinators for the evening and night staff performance appraisals. Provides input to the shift coordinators within the unit regarding the Nursing Supervisors relative to their performance.
- Meets at least monthly with staff.
- Supports the quality improvement initiative including nursing quality assurance. Assures and/or conducts monitoring of documentation in resident care practices for units to assure compliance with acceptable standards. Participates in the infection control program especially regarding their particular area of responsibility.
- Establishes and maintains collaborative communication with nursing and other Health Care professionals of the facility.
- Participates in practice survey process to assure compliance with OBRA regulations and other relevant, regulatory and/or accrediting bodies. Participates in surveys conducted by authorized agencies.
- Review concerns, complaints and grievances filed by employees, residents or families/responsible parties. Takes necessary steps to resolve them. Assists in developing, updating and standardizing procedures to be utilized on the resident care units.
What You Have:
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing (Registered Nurse). Bachelors of Science degree in Nursing and/or Master's degree is preferred.
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing required.
- Two years recent nursing experience in a long term care environment including satisfactory experience in a leadership role required.
- Current knowledge of state and federal regulations pertaining to long term care facilities preferred. Recent experience in dementia care.
- Positive interpersonal skills required.
- CPR certification required prior to or upon employment.
- Basic computer knowledge required.
- Certified Dementia Practitioner preferred or willing to obtain upon hire.
- Clear understanding of deficits due cognitive loss and the ability to work with families to help guide them through the process.
