Overview

Position Highlights:

NA II
Shift Schedule: PRN, Variable Shifts
Department: ICU
Location: Wilkes Medical Center

Requirements:
High school diploma or GED equivalent.
Completion of a North Carolina State-approved Nurse Aide II course.
Registered as a Nurse Aide I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Service Regulation.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) may be required within one year in select areas.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Assistance: Assist medical staff with patient preparation, examinations, and procedures, including patient interviews, data documentation, and vital signs monitoring.
Nursing Process: Participate in implementing the nursing process by providing direct care to patients under the guidance of an RN or LPN.
Room Setup: Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness, restocking, and proper equipment setup.
Communication: Ensure complete, accurate, and timely communication of patient information within the healthcare team.
Specimen Handling: Collect and process specimens for diagnostic testing following policy guidelines.
Documentation: Accurately document all patient care provided in the medical record according to medical center policy.
Point of Care Testing: Maintain competency for point of care testing as assigned, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
Effective Communication: Communicate effectively with the healthcare team, colleagues, patients, and family members in a professional and positive manner.
Professional Development: Take personal responsibility and initiative for professional growth and development.
Age-Specific Care: Provide age/developmentally appropriate patient care following guidelines for the clinical population served.
Infection Prevention: Comply with Medical Center Infection Prevention policies to manage infectious materials using proper techniques, sanitization, chemical disinfection, surgical asepsis, and safe handling of biohazardous materials.
Mission and Values: Adhere to the Medical Center's mission, vision, values, and the philosophy of the Department of Nursing and Service Line standards in patient care.
Additional Duties: Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Skills/Qualifications:

Strong oral and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to perform effectively with frequent workload changes and competing demands.

Work Environment:

Typical clinical setting.
Interaction with patients, family members, visitors, co-workers, and medical staff in various circumstances.
Regular exposure to blood-borne diseases, infectious, and contagious diseases.
Subject to multiple interruptions.
Occasional exposure to radiation hazards.
Possible exposure to cleaning agents/chemicals.
Occasional irregular hours.
Use of personal protective equipment.
