New Graduates 

New registered nurse (RN) graduates benefit from a comprehensive, personalized support system. All RNs in their first nursing role are invited to participate in a Nurse Residency Program alongside nursing orientation. The program provides socialization and support, enhances clinical judgment, and promotes professional development. 

About Peds ICU Step-Down

Peds ICU offers countless opportunities to gain expertise in pulmonary through a supportive environment with a highly engaged staff. You will have the opportunity to truly get to know your patients and families and be involved in the continuum of care as we treat many chronic conditions.

8 West is a 24-bed pulmonary unit that cares for patients diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, bronchiolitis, asthma, pneumonia, obstructive sleep apnea, and respiratory distress. Patients vary in acuity from acute to progressive care. The pulmonary multidisciplinary team consists of a fantastic group of nurses, physicians, case managers, social workers, patient care assistants, unit secretaries, and respiratory therapists. You will engage in a high level of collaboration with many of these disciplines on a regular basis to provide excellent care to our patients.

BSN preferred. Prior PCA or PCI experience in similar setting preferred.

Nursing skills gained on this unit:

Assessment skills
Central line use and care
Feeding tube use and care
Tracheostomy care
Interdisciplinary collaboration
Time management and prioritization
Patient education

Unit Successes/Designations:

Many nurses with CPN certification
Daisy and Red Shoe award nominees
Capstone preceptors
Involvement in unit and hospital committees

Qualifications 

Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) preferred.

Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.

Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.

Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.

Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
