CHARGE NURSE - 5W MEDICAL/SURGICAL

Salary Range: $58.1800 - $90.1300 /hour. Actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, skill level, and education.

The Charge Nurse provides clinical supervision of patient care and job performance supervision of all employees on an assigned shift. Plans, coordinates and provides for optimum patient care on the unit. Maintains the Standards of Nursing Care as established. Assures utilization of the nursing process based on research and evidence based outcomes. Identifies the number and level of personnel needed to provide patient care and adjusts staffing and assignments appropriately. Evaluates the capabilities of other professionals prior to delegating duties. Facilitates and encourages staff nurse participation in shared governance councils by assuring appropriate schedule availability and provides staff nurse relief on leave unit for on-duty meetings.

In addition to the above, provides nursing care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act. Incorporates critical care modalities and utilizes the nursing process based on evidence based outcomes to meet patient care needs as they relate to the Pulmonary/ Med/ Surg Unit.

Education, Training and Experience

Required: BSN

Preferred: MSN preferred.

Skills or Other Qualifications

Required: Demonstrates effective communication, interpersonal skills, organizational ability, knowledge of proper body mechanics, safety measures and infection control, ability to follow instructions, knowledge of age of population served and additional skills and knowledge of equipment may be required for hire into some patient care departments.

Preferred: Strong management and leadership skills.

License and Certifications

Required: Current licensure as a RN in the State of California. Current BLS certification is required prior to clinical rotation. ACLS is obtained and maintained. Current NIHSS Certification is required within 30 days of hire.

Preferred: Basic arrhythmia, ACLS and PALS.
