Mountain View Hospital is looking for an Instrument Processing Tech/Certified Nurse Assistant to join our team!
JOB SUMMARY:
The Instrument Processing Technician cleans, packages, sterilizes, and stores the supplies, instruments and equipment. Facilitates and demonstrates cooperative behavior with colleagues and supervisors at all times.
The Certified Nurse Assistant carries out basic care under the supervision of a RegisteredNurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in accordance with thestandards of care for the center. Demonstrates the appropriate skills and ability, based on level of training and scope of practice.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Adheres to the sterilization process policies and procedures.
- Cleans each item according to manufacturers’ instruction.
- Inspects instruments under microscope for damage and defects; lubricates items as required.
- Determines that each item is in good working condition.
- Sorts and arranges items into proper trays according to established policy and procedure.
- Wraps trays and individual items according to established policy and procedure.
- Accurately labels each item with name and expiration date.
- Correctly operates sterilizers, ultrasonic washer and other equipment for processing items.
- Positions items correctly in sterilizer and selects proper cycle; seeks assistance when needed.
- Checks indicators for proper functioning.
- Performs required biological monitoring tests on all sterilizers according to established policy and procedures.
- Maintains availability of supplies for continuity of recording throughout sterilization process.
- Cleans sterilizers according to established policies and procedure
- Maintains inventory levels and accurate records.
- Performs weekly inspections of all sterile items in the facility.
- Checks for outdated items and package integrity of wrapped sterilized items; replaces items as necessary.
- Places items in correct location.
- Maintains adequate inventory of supplies for the sterile processing area.
- Maintains and updates the instrument tray inventory list.
- Maintains current information regarding routine preference cards.
- Accurately documents count of items sent to and returned by laundry. The Certified Nursing Assistant:
- Assists in the care of assigned patients as directed by appropriate nursing staff. Obtain admission Vital signs/discharge Vital signs and verify patient signatures.
- Demonstrates awareness of and sensitivity to patient and family rights, as identified by the center.
- Performs his/her duties in accordance with the job requirements.
- Understand the protocol for responding to emergency situations and the importance of remaining calm in this situation.
- Participates in staff meetings, in-service programs and education requirements as appropriate.
- Communicates all pertinent information, including findings, problems, concerns or ideas to the assigned nurse, utilizing appropriate lines of authority, in a timely and effective manner.
- Seeks guidance and assistance from the assigned nurse when knowledge base and skill level is in question.
- Maintains standards to provide safe, effective care to the patients.
- Performs efficiently when putting charts together, stocking rooms, stocking linens, recording temperatures on fridge/blanket warmer and assisting with patient care.
- Assist LPN or RN in Discharging of Patients, which may include, but not limited to, verifying Patient has a stable gate, written discharge instructions given to the patient, and verification of patient not driving self-home.
- Works as a part of the team in delivering patient care.
- Is flexible and willing to assist with other duties on the unit.
- Currents BLS Certification.

Qualifications
Education/Certification: Education/Certification: Certificate of training for Nurse’s Aide. Must maintain current BLS. Completed HospitalOrientation and all mandatory education and training.
Experience: Preferable, but not mandatory, 6 months of PACU/Medical Surgical. Experience in instrument processing functions preferred.
Language/Communication: Ability to read and communicate effectively in English thus assuring effective communication with all hospital staff, medical staff, patients and their families by providing and maintaining open lines of communication. Has the ability and knowledge to assist communication for patients who speak another language other than English.
Equipment/Technology: Basic computer knowledge
Mental Capabilities: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Can adapt to rapidly changing workloads due to changes in the surgery census. Can frequently and consistently make sound judgments. Must be able to understand input from the supervisor and/or manager concerning errors and instructions.
Interpersonal: Ability to work well with others.
Performance: Basic computer knowledge along with basic knowledge of Medical Charting. Must be able to handle/defuse conflict issues with patients, their families and staff. Demonstrated understanding of sterilization principles required. Ability to respond quickly to physician and patient needs.
