Overview of Position:
Plans, provides and/or supervises the nursing care of patients in an efficient and caring manner. Coordinates care planning with other caregivers and with other areas, adheres to universal precautions, and is compliant with infection control policies. Works independently with minimal supervision.
Specific requirements include: 1) 96 hours of scheduled weekend shifts during each 6-week schedule.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
1. Provides direct patient care in accordance with physician orders in a warm and friendly manner.
2. Takes and records measurements or readings.
3. Assesses condition and provides treatment for care of patient.
4. Administers prescribed medications.
5. Provides leadership while working collaboratively with other care givers on the unit.
6. Participates in keeping unit prepared for HFAP on an ongoing basis.
7. Assists with patient rounds.
8. Willingly floats between campuses.
9. Demonstrates knowledge, skills and ability related to patient care and normal procedures in assigned department within own scope of practice as demonstrated in completion of annual competencies.
10. Assists with orientation process of new staff as assigned.
Additional duties for Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit (CPCU):
11. Demonstrates proficiency with critical thinking related to preoperative assessment and postoperative care of surgical patients
12. Demonstrates flexibility to accommodate work schedule and scheduled shifts to include equality of call coverage, starting early, late shift.
13. Proficient with specimen collection/documentation.
14. Completes documentation of daily unit maintenance checks.
15. Demonstrates proficiency with OPTIME/EPIC
16. Completes all mandatory competencies within posted time frames; i.e. moderate sedation, annual competency.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Current Ohio RN License and ADN.
2. CPR certification within 30 days of employment.
3. Ability to read, write and explain or describe moderately complex information to other hospital staff.
4. Attention to detail.
5. Ability to communicate well in an oral and written manner, as well as the ability to observe, assess, guide, and evaluate others
6. Ability to read, calculate and prepare medication, as well as the ability to observe and analyze any resulting reactions and to apply clinical knowledge.
7. Ability to collect data, interpret findings, set priorities and carry out established plan
8. Demonstrates competence in age-specific patient care.
Additional qualifications for the following units:
a. Cardiovascular Progressive Care Unit:
i. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS) or obtained within one year of hire
ii. Must complete Genesis phlebotomy training within one year of hire.
b. Clinical Decision Unit:
i. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS) or obtain within one year of hire.
c. Critical Progressive Care Float Pool (CPFP)
i. Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification (ACLS) or obtained within one year of hire
ii. Must complete Genesis phlebotomy training within one year of hire.
iii. Must have one year of experience in Step-down, CCU, or Emergency Services.
d. Emergency Services Units:
i. PALS certification within 12 months after completion of orientation, provided the appropriate classes are available/offered within this period.
ii. TNCC certification within 12 months of hire date, provided the appropriate classes are available/offered within this period.
iii. ACLS certification within 12 months of hire date, provided the appropriate classes are available/offered within this period.
iv. BCRA certification during nursing orientation.
v. ENPC certification within 12 months after completion of orientation, provided the appropriate classes are available/offered within this period.
