Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Floor Captain - Registered Nurse coordinates direct patient care, assists with administration of vaccines, and performs EKGs, blood draws and other procedures. This positions assists team members in professional growth by delegating tasks within their scope of practice and competence.

This position will be Monday - Friday , 9:00am - 6:00pm.

Assists site management in meeting budget targets
Promotes practice growth through attracting and retaining new patients
Assures adequate resources are available.

Teamwork: Engages the patient care team to achieve excellence in patient care and management. To facilitate team care, the Floor Captain will work from the assigned team room.

Coordinates direct patient care, assists with administration of vaccines, and performs EKGs, blood draws and other procedures.
Ensures that patients receive appropriate education regarding new diagnoses, new medications, as well as wellness recommendations.
Verifies cleanliness of exam rooms, and adequate stocks of supplies.
Supports regulatory compliance.
Ensures timely discharge of patients occurs in collaboration with the provider and team members, including medication reconciliation, appointments are scheduled to specialty clinics, and patients are handed off to the referral coordinator for necessary preauthorizations.

Technical Skill: Demonstrates clinical nursing competence, understanding of job expectations and compliance with organizational policies and procedures.

Anticipates, recognizes, and intervenes appropriately in situations that place patient/family at risk.
Administers medications safely and legally within scope of practice.
Promotes self-management with patients and families.
Ensures discharge planning occurs in collaboration with the provider and other team members.

Job Requirements

A minimum of three years progressive professional experience as an RN in a community health care setting.
Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred; may be deemed necessary at certain locations
Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
Must complete lean process training within the first year of assignment. Can be extended if class is not offered by Eskenazi Health.

Proficient in computer skills including G3, eCW, Word, Excel.
