MercyOne Medical Group – Central Iowa is one of Iowa’s largest multispecialty clinic systems, made up of more than 50 primary care, pediatric, internal medicine and specialty clinics located throughout Dallas, Jasper, Polk, Wapello, Warren and Webster counties.

GENERAL SUMMARY: Delivers, implements, and evaluates nursing care to assigned patients under supervision of a registered nurse and is accountable for patient care administered during the shift. Provides patient care activities to patients of diverse ages.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Administers nursing care to patients under the direction of the registered nurse; includes assessing patients, implementing patient's plan of care, and evaluating the patient's response to care in coordination with the physician. - Provides patient/family or caregiver education as directed. - Utilizes hospital information system to process orders/data and retrieve patient information. - Is knowledgeable in delegation of tasks to certified nursing assistants, patient care technicians and nursing technicians with patients. - Maintains knowledge of documentation requirements needed for patients' records. - Works under direct supervision using the Nurse Practice Act, Mercy Medical Center policies, nursing standards, and nursing judgment. - Maintains knowledge of equipment set-up, maintenance, and use (i.e., IV pumps, monitoring equipment, drainage devices). - Works rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. - Initiates emergency support measures (i.e., cardiopulmonary resuscitation, protecting patient from injury). - Takes assigned call as defined in unit policy.

MARGINAL FUNCTIONS: Assists with patient care duties/tasks (i.e., emptying drainage devices, ambulating, and hygiene). - Assists with clerical duties (i.e., maintenance of chart, patient record, answering phones and call lights, processing physician orders). - Maintains patient care supplies, equipment, and environment. - Provides orientation/education for staff, students, and health care members as directed. - Effectively assumes job responsibilities of ancillary support during absence.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Possession of a current license as a practical nurse issued by the State of Iowa.
Successfully completes required medication examination prior to passing medication.
Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three (3) months of hire.
BLS certified by the end of the orientation period (approximately six (6) weeks).
