Job Title: MRI / Imaging Nurse
Department: Imaging
Reports To: TBD
Job Summary: Employee will be responsible for the provision of direct patient care to patients having radiologic examinations. These responsibilities will include assessment, teaching, communication, drug administration, evaluation of patients' needs and responding to acute patient problems. Employee must be self-motivated and demonstrate ability to work as a team. Employee will be dedicated to MRI safety for all
Job Responsibilities include:
- Assessment
- Performs and documents an accurate assessment on each assigned patient within established standard of care
- Identifies patients immediate needs on admission
- Assures patient knowledge of Advance Directive and Patient Rights
- Assessment of patients discharge needs are completed on admission and is on going
- Responds appropriately to changes in patient condition
- Anticipates patients' needs based on accurate assessment
- Individualizes plan of patient care based on accurate patient assessment
- Utilizes established guidelines in planning care
- Ability to organize self to meet patient care requirements within shift
- Coordinates multidisciplinary team to meet patient care needs
- Provides direct patient care following established standards
- Implements and coordinates patient teaching plan
- Incorporates and documents patient teaching in daily patient care
- Coordinates and directs personnel who possess diverse backgrounds in education, experience, ability and motivation
- Appropriate delegation of patient care activities
- Evaluation
- Demonstrates ability to recognize and act on a patients variances from established plan
- Documentation is complete and reflects patient's progress towards established goals
- Reassessment of patient condition is completed and documented according to standards and patient status. Any changes in condition are responded to quickly and appropriately
- Information management
- Accurately uses the hospital information systems to enter and retrieve patient data
- Demonstrates complete order entry of all test and procedures
- Leadership
- Facilitates and assures appropriate patient assignments
- Ability to handle incidents and communicates incidents to the appropriate people
- Promotes teamwork
- Communicates with all staff and assists in conflict resolution
- Communicates with staff throughout the shifts regarding staffs planning
- Is able to recognize priorities of patient care and act accordingly
- Maintains accountability for nursing judgement and actions
- Is able to adjust self to accommodates changes in work assignment
- Demonstrates flexibility in scheduling when staffing needs arise
- Demonstrates flexibility in assignments
- Works with multidisciplinary team to meet patients' care needs, teaching plan discharges needs
- Completes all mandatory educational requirements
- Participates in a minimum of one educational seminar or workshop per year

MRI POSITION SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE STANDARDS
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of MR system safety.
- Observes all safety and warning signs
- Demonstrates ability to locate all emergency stops
- Demonstrates emergency patient extraction from the bore and magnet room
- Follows the information in the safety manual
- Capable of thoroughly screening patients
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of MR department policies.
- Consistently follows patient identification policy.
- Labels contrast when opened with date, time and initials.
- Labels syringes when loading with date, time, and initials
- Documents any changes/variation to protocol on requisition.
- Follows all P+P regarding use of ISTAT (per sites worked)
- Understands the importance of and adheres to the MR safety policies for patients and staff.
- Participates in staff meetings and MR safety meeting
- Reads e-mails to ensure up to date with changes
- Completes ALL steps involved with the exam:
- Documentation of patient history.
- Documentation of tech info.
- Documentation of contrast info.
- Documentation of IV/injection info.
- Consistent documentation of "Universal Time Out".
- Exam entered/edited in computer.
- Paperwork Pacs scanned into system.
- Consistently edits exam status in a timely manner.
- Assesses stock levels and enters stock/pantry orders in computer system.
- Shows knowledge and respect for stock volumes and the importance in regard to fiscal integrity.
- replenishes stock when low/cleans rooms
- Check for expired supplies
- Follows policy to enter in appropriate patient chargeable items after contrasted exams
- Follows policy to enter in appropriate patient chargeable items post special procedures.
- Communicates with patients, staff, offices and physicians effectively and frequently.
- Communicates any equipment malfunction with other staff.
- Documents equipment issues in the communication logbook for reference.
- Provides out patients with thank you cards.
- Demonstrates proper phone etiquette when answering , transferring or taking messages
- Demonstrates willingness to adapt to changes in schedule and workload.
- Readily accepts responsibility.
- Offers assistance to other modalities whenever possible.
- Willingness to transport patients.
- Willingness to start IV's in time of need.
- Accommodates every patient and guest.
- Explains each procedure to patient in understandable terms and pleasant manner.
- Provides attention, care, and comfort to patients.
- Communicates/updates patient status frequently.
- Capable of burning a CD and obtaining proper Release of Information consent
- Recognizes equipment malfunctions and initiates action to correct problem.
- Identify table weight limits
- Follows appropriate patient loading criteria
- Can dock and undock the table
- Demonstrates the ability to attach and detach positioning devices
- Checks surface coils and cables
- Cleans positioning sponges, coils and cables between patients
- Capable of using Meditech, PACS , vRad, Shiftwizard and other necessary computer programs
- Performs proper hand Hygiene before and after each patient
- Cleans equipment after each patient
- Capable of performing sterile technique
- Understands and follows the precautions needed for isolation patients
Requirements:
Education - RN
Experience - Preference two years' experience, or Certified Radiology Nurse
Licensure - RN and NYS license
Physical Requirements - Must be able to push, pull, bend, safely transfer patients and ambulate without assistance.
