JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
Minimum Work Experience: 1 year of experience as an LPN preferred
Required Licenses / Certifications: Current Idaho LPN license. Current BLS Certification.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Highly desired skills: Problem solving, collaboration, ability to implement evidenced-based guidelines, conflict management, leadership, program management. Basic typing skills; ability to use electronic health record

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Uses a systematic approach to monitor effectiveness of prevention and control strategies that are consistent with BMH, Inc.’s goals and objectives. Develop a surveillance plan based on population(s) served, services provided, and previous surveillance data. Periodically evaluate the effectiveness of the surveillance plan and modify as necessary. Use epidemiologic principles to conduct surveillance and outbreak investigations. Use statistical techniques to describe the data, calculate risk-adjusted rates, and establish benchmarks. Critically evaluate the significance of findings and make recommendations for improvement based on those findings. Act as an educator, resource, and a catalyst for change for health care providers, ancillary staff, patients, families, and the general public. Collaborate in the development and delivery of education programs and/or tools that relate to infection prevention, control, and epidemiology. Enhance the visibility of healthcare providers and their knowledge of specific infection prevention and control practices, targets, and organizational goals.Orient staff, conduct trainings, and participate in staff meeting and educational programs for staff at BMH, Inc. Provide expert knowledge, guidance, and perform routine risk assessments in collaboration with multidisciplinary team as appropriate. Collaborate with departments, disciplines, and organizations to implement into practice pertinent regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and guidelines. Provide input into patient safety and quality initiatives. Critically evaluate published research and integrate evidenced based practices into routine practices to improve quality, reliability, and safety of health care. Assists department manager in planning, organizing, developing, implementing, coordinating and directing Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) program for BMH, Inc. and its activities in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern such program. Determine resource needs and communicate needs to key stakeholders to accomplish the proposed goals and objectives. Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development through additional education. Practices within legal boundaries and according to hospital policy and procedures. Reviews and analyzes laboratory reports. Ensure reportable diseases are reported to the county and state health departments, as well as to direct supervisor. Includes data in reports to supervisor as well as Quality manager, administration, etc. Ensure that patients/residents with known communicable or infectious diseases are place in appropriate isolation precautions. Monitor for and respond to exposures and outbreaks; develop a response and management plan for exposed people; directs responses to outbreaks and epidemics. Assist with developing policies and procedures regarding infection prevention, control, and safety to prevent infectious disease. Prepare quarterly report to ICC regarding healthcare acquired infections and IPC plan; disseminate data to medical and nursing staff. Attend weekly meetings, committees, and other duties as assigned. Assist with new hire health screening, drug testing, TB screening, immunizations for prospective and current employees. Outpatient clinic surveillance and oversight in assigned clinics. Provide oversight for respiratory protection program and assist with influenza data collection. Provide educational opportunities that promote employee health, safety, and well-being. Referral to physician or health care provider for care/consultation beyond nursing scope of practice. Reports daily/weekly to supervisor regarding tasks and assigned duties.
