Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Triage - MA/CMA to join our team!
MA or CMA WILL BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS ROLE.
JOB SUMMARY: The Gastroenterology Triage MA/CMA serves as a resource for patients/families, physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare team specialists to ensure the patient progresses towards care goals and receives gastroenterology care driven by evidence based guidelines. He/she will administer care through telephone services providing patients with medical advice, evaluating and assessing their symptoms and consulting with providers regarding their plan of care.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Triage Clinical Staff:
- Serves as primary point of contact for daytime clinical calls with a variety of health or condition questions, collects subjective data related to the patient’s current problem and medical history. Evaluates and assesses patient’s symptoms and consulting with physicians as needed. Accurately identifies patient’s problem or need.
- Conveys to the caller in a “charismatic” and “compassionate” manner that the patient or customers concerns are priority and will be addressed in a timely manner.
- Accesses patient information via EMR and counsels patients via telephone according to established guidelines and/or protocols. Advises on provider-established plans of care.
- Ability to assess appropriateness of care, including triaging level of urgency with patient phone calls: urgent vs non-urgent/routine and direct or those phone calls accordingly.
- Demonstrates clinical and leadership skills.
- Able to work collaboratively as a resource with patient’s care team to ensure medical care is evidence based.

Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification: High school diploma or GED.
Experience: Phone triage or previous medical experience is preferred.
Equipment/Technology: Ability to use various software programs.
Language/Communication: Demonstrates great ability to communicate well with staff, patients, family members, and consultants. Ability to read and interpret documents such as clinical notes and physician orders, as well as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively to patients, their families, referring offices, insurance companies, diagnostic facilities, surgical facilities via phone, fax, computerized ordering systems and in person.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Mental Capabilities: Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Interpersonal: Excellent interpersonal skills required, must be approachable and able to work well with others
