Job Description:

Description: The RN Emergency Department (ED) Critical Care Coordinator is responsible for the delivery of quality patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosing, planning, implementation and evaluation. This job coordinates with ED physicians and nursing staff as well as specialty teams of service in the Main ED to provide the highest standard of patient care. In addition, it also develops, coordinates and implements plans for patient assignments which accommodate patient needs and unit workload.

Typical Duties:

Facilitates and manages patient flow throughout their designated area of the ED to ensure that patients are expeditiously moved into treatment area and wait time is minimized.
Reviews all admissions including charting of the primary nurse for completeness, assures report is given to receiving units, and makes preparation for the patient’s immediate transport to the receiving unit.
Maintains knowledge of the actual and potential disposition status of the patients in the ED.
Contributes to achievement of the department’s metrics, including but not limited to: door-to-discharge, bed assigned-to-discharge, Left without Being Seen rate.
Delivers nursing care to assigned group of patients to include education directed towards identified knowledge deficits, treatment planning, pain management and discharge planning utilizing the nursing process.
Delivers quality nursing care while minimizing the risk of infection, contamination, harm or injury. Maintains safe and clean working environment, ensuring compliance with procedure rules and regulations.
Provides and coordinates patient care, educates patients and public about various health conditions and provides emotional support to patients and family members.
Modifies patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.
Monitors, records and reports symptoms and changes in patients' conditions.
Consults and coordinates with health care team members to provide comprehensive care of trauma patients at an appropriate level including appropriate documentation.
Collaborates with the Team Leader to ensure appropriate flow of trauma patients.
Provides patient education regarding patient disease processes and discharge instructions including medications and home care.
Interprets and evaluates diagnostic tests to assist the attending provider in identifying and assessing patients’ conditions.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience: Associates degree from an accredited school of professional nursing. 2 plus years of emergency department experience.
Preferred Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing. 2 plus years of experience as a practicing Registered Nurse.
Required Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training: Current licensure by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity of licensure between the State of Texas and another state. Completion of unit specific competency based orientation program within 90 days. Current JPS recognized Basic Life Support (BLS) and must be maintained throughout employment. Completes Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Life Support (PALS) within 90 days of hire date and maintains credentialing throughout employment. Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC).
Preferred Licensure/Certification/Specialized Training: Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) certification
