Job Summary:
The Lead Clinical Educator (RN) will maintain direct oversight of clinical education staff for managing responsibility for hospital education programs and curriculum. In collaboration with nursing leadership, human resources, and staff across all areas to assess, plan, develop, implement, facilitate, evaluate, and revise educational programs for all nursing and non-nursing personnel. The Lead Clinical Educator (RN) also partners with peers across the enterprise to develop clinical standards, guidelines, relevant statutes, rules, and regulations. The Lead Clinical Educator (RN) facilitates consistency of dissemination of standardized clinical education policies, procedures, and programs. The role will support the implementation of leadership decisions that affect clinical and non-clinical areas.
Essential Lead Clinical Educator Functions:
- Continuously does research and other scholarly reviews to stay on top of best practices, standards of practice, and updated laws and regulations.
- Reviews and disseminates current information on trends in healthcare.
- Plans, implements, and evaluates educational activities based on identified learning needs, and ensures they meet regulatory and professional standards.
- Develops, coordinates, administers, facilitates, and evaluates onboarding and clinical competency programs.
- Reviews and evaluates clinical orientation and ongoing educational program outcomes to determine areas for improvement and recommends changes to current orientation programs as appropriate.
- Conducts onboarding, training, and competency evaluation of new and existing staff.
- Provides feedback on the staff’s clinical needs to unit leadership.
- Develop a yearly educational plan based on unit educational needs assessments.
- Coordinates with leadership to conduct preceptor training/mentoring sessions for staff.
- Assess the clinical needs of all staff and formulate action plans as needed.
- Supports ongoing development of critical thinking skills among clinical staff.
- Coordinates student affiliations in collaboration with clinical leadership.
- Coordinate external educational opportunities.
- Manages the crash cart and its contents as needs change. Ongoing evaluation of the code carts throughout the building and AEDs.
- Coordinates annual competency programs and evaluations.
- Demonstrates knowledge and behaviors regarding:
- Hospital infection control program
- Hospital safety and risk management program
- Hospital hazardous waste and material plan
- Departmental-specific safety policies
- Patient rights and cultural diversity
- Confidentiality
- Hospital mission and goals
- Hospital CQI/QM program
- Service excellence standards
- Human resource policy and procedure manual
- Department policy and procedure manual
- Employee handbook
What we need from you:
- A graduate of an approved school of professional nursing is required. MSN preferred.
- Three (3) years of experience in pediatrics is required.
- Clinical educator experience is required.
- Currently licensed in the state of Illinois is required.
- Demonstrates knowledge and expertise in pediatric nursing.
- Ability to function as an exceptional role model to staff.
- Familiar with policies of regulatory agencies: JCAHO, Illinois Department of public health (IDPH), Illinois nurse practice act, and occupational safety health administration (OSHA).
- Ability to establish priorities and possess independent decision-making capabilities.
- CPR required: Only certifications issued by the American Heart Association, or the American Red Cross will be accepted.
