Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Psychiatry

Position Summary

We are seeking an adult outpatient clinical APP [PMHNP or PA] to work under the supervision and in collaboration with a Washington University in St. Louis Psychiatrist. As an APP at Washington University in St. Louis, you’ll be a critical part of our clinical team, serving the mental healthcare needs of our clients. Provides primary and/or specialty nursing and/or medical care in a variety of settings; works under physician oversight as required by state regulation and functions within the scope of practice defined by the Nurse Practitioner’s specialty certification, Barnes-Jewish Hospital medical by-laws, and, where it exists, the collaborative practice agreement.

Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Focus on clinical care of patients with a wide range of psychiatric diagnoses.
Evaluate, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for assigned patients.
Prescribe and monitor medication.
Provide referrals for additional treatment needs.
Provide psychotherapy as needed.
Document, monitor, and ensure accuracy of patient medical records. Maintain all required reports, record, statistics, etc.
Maintain a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients/families in accordance with established clinic/hospital standards.
Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance program, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Enhance professional growth and development through educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
APP will function and be supervised under a Collaborative Practice Agreement with a Physician.

Preferred Qualifications

Mental Health Nurse Practitioner License to practice in the state of Missouri. Illinois license a plus.
Minimum of 1 year of experience as PMHNP or PA in an outpatient setting.
CAQ in Mental Health for a Physician Assistant.
Holds current certification in patient care field and required specialty.
Clinical skills.
Empathy, communication, active listening, problem solving, ethical principles, ability to work with diverse populations.
Experienced in working with adults, or across the lifespan.
Experienced in both medication management as well as psychotherapy.

Required Qualifications

Nurse Practitioner

Master of Science in Nursing with emphasis in the Nurse Practitioner program.
Advanced Practical Nurse licensure or ability to successfully obtain licensure within three months of date of hire.
Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty.
Basic Life Support certification (Online Basic Life Support certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the Basic Life Support requirements).

Physician Assistant

Graduate of PA program.
Current PA licensure to practice in the state of Missouri and/or Illinois depending on location or ability to obtain within three months of date of hire.
Certain/additional certifications may be necessary based on area of specialty.
Basic Life Support certification (Online BLS certifications, those without a skills assessment component, are not sufficient to meet the BLS requirements).

S30

Salary Range

$84,600.00 - $152,300.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
