We are looking for a dedicated OR Nurse Manager like you to join our Lubbock Heart team.
What You Will do in this Role:
-
- Assures that regular rounds are completed for the purposes of staff observation and data collection.
- Monitors compliance with hand hygiene guidelines and other evidence based infection prevention practices.
- Coordinates new employee orientation related to infection prevention.
- Coordinates on-going staff education related to infection prevention and infectious diseases.
- Coordinates thorough investigation of any negative trends or outbreaks.
- Works collaboratively with Infection Preventionist to identify personnel infections, identify exposures and coordinate appropriate follow-up.
- Facilitates the development of appropriate working relationships with the Director, Medical Staff, corporate staff, patients and family members. Maintains exceptional services to all customers including physicians, patients and employees. Models appropriate interaction with physicians, patients and staff to ensure high level of service in all areas of responsibility
- Maintains a culture of service in department, connecting organizational values to actions. Sets example for team members by participating in service initiatives and encourages others to do so as well.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills with staff, management, physicians, patients and family.
- Prepares staffing schedules and makes assignments based on staffing tools and monitors overtime.
- Demonstrates skills as a team player. As a leader, shows appropriate delegation, while directing and supervising nursing and ancillary personnel in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating patient care in the operating room according to accepted standards.
- Provides direct patient care in clinical areas as needed and demonstrates necessary clinical competence.
- Participates in service recovery by taking ownership of the situation and correcting problems. Strives to promote customer satisfaction and follows through with the situation to correct the problem. Keeps customers informed of progress related to clinical operations and provides comfort, information and assistance during the process.
- Demonstrates ability to solve problems timely and constructively; maintains focus on the situation and not personalities-gathers facts before reacting.
- Maintains sufficient and qualified staff to meet the needs of the facility. Works closely with the Medical Director and the Surgery Scheduler to achieve a smooth flow of the daily operating room schedule.
- Assists with interviews, hiring, counseling, and evaluations of staff in an effective and timely manner.
- Participates in staff meetings for department and facility at regular intervals for informative and educational purposes to build appropriate communication and effective team environment.
- With the assistance of the Director, evaluates employees based in the operating room prior to the employees 90-day employment and then on an annual basis. Provides verbal and written counseling in a timely manner, and recommends further disciplinary action when needed.
- Facilitates and coordinates the orientation process and in-services as need for employees.
- Delegates coordination of department needs when out of the department.
- Maintains appropriate surgical attire and exhibits leadership skills that will assist the team in developing and maturing.
- Participation in development of clinical operating budget, capital budget, staffing and volume projections.
- Assists in the development of plans for cost containment in all clinical areas and implements and oversees the same to ensure successful completion of goals.
- Reviews productivity of the Operating Room departments to ensure appropriate staffing as well as fiscal responsibility.
- Additional duties as assigned
What Qualifications You Will Need:
- 5 years of surgical service work experience required. Cardiovascular Surgery experience strongly desired.
- 3 years of management or supervisor experience in surgery desired
- Accredited School of Nursing; BSN preferred.

Lubbock Heart & Surgical Hospital specializes in the care of cardiac, orthopedic, nephrology, urology, and general medical patients. We are also a highly active inpatient center mainly centered on surgical procedures that include cardiothoracic, orthopedic, urology, and general surgery. We have a 24-hour Emergency Department with 5 fully equipped ED rooms, 4 fully operating OR rooms, 4 cardiac catherization labs with 1 electrophysiology room, 11-day surgery rooms, 58 acute care beds spread over three units, and 16 cardiac critical care rooms. We pride ourselves on giving the best overall care possible to our patients and on our family style atmosphere that includes everyone: patients and their families, physicians, and our employees.
