Hoag Health Care is seeking a Cardiothoracic Acute Care Nurse Practitioner focused on cardiothoracic surgery to join our team located in Orange County, California. The selected candidate will commit to a multi-disciplinary team approach to inpatient care in partnership with our Cardiothoracic Surgery Team.

Our program specializes in adult cardiac surgery, Aortic surgery, Minimally Invasive Valve Surgery, Robotic Thoracic surgery, and Hybrid Maze procedures for the treatment of Atrial Fibrillation as well as implants and manages ECMO. The program participates in the STS Registry and strives to improve the cardiothoracic care we provide by participating in clinical research, development of new programs, and educational opportunities.

In this position, you will:

Perform patient histories and physical exams conduct physical examinations, and record the data in the patient’s record
Perform daily patient rounds (including critical care), patient education and discharge summaries
Assist in the evaluation and treatment of Cardiothoracic Surgery patients in an inpatient setting including the emergency room and the intensive care unit.
Write progress notes, consults, admissions, and discharge summaries
Prepare patient workups.
Order and schedule diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for patients as direct patient care services are delivered.
Work alongside Surgeons and other Cardiac Advanced Practice Providers in a collaborative team.
Highly autonomous Acute Care practice night shift setting.

Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, generally 7p – 7a.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The Nurse Practitioner provides high-quality advanced nursing care by professional regulatory standards and within the scope of the nurse practitioner license.
This role provides multidisciplinary care providing patient evaluations and assessments, patient education, interventions, and documents plan of care.
Requests physician consultations and multidisciplinary consults.
Recognizes that ethical/legal/medical dilemmas exist in the nursing practice, and confers with the appropriate resources and staff when making ethical decisions.
May work as an independent provider and/or under indirect supervision of a supervising physician.
May see all and treat a variety of age populations.
Depending on the area, may work different hours, weekends, and holidays.
May require on-call time.

Privileges granted by the Medical Staff Department can include arranging admission and transfer of patients, performing and dictating exams, history, and physicals, rounding on assigned patients and writing progress notes with plan of care, and dictating discharge summaries. Also may furnish medications (non-narcotic) and durable medical equipment (DME), controlled substances III, IV, V with appropriate licensure/certification, and controlled substances II with appropriate licensure/certification. May order blood products, laboratory tests, radiological, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and neurological studies, oxygen therapy, respiratory treatment, and pulmonary tests. May perform drain and suture removal. May order and administer medications and IV therapy with the ability to assess and adjust appropriate dosing. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

Master’s in Nursing (MSN) or DNP required.
Completion of proctoring by Medical Staff Office.
Advanced clinical knowledge and skills in the care and management of patients.

License Required

Current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in California
Furnishing license issued by the State of California and personal DEA number

Certifications Required

BLS required. National board certification as a Nurse Practitioner in an area of specialty required

A strong medical background and a desire to develop a practice to support a growing multi-specialty medical group. In providing this support, you will obtain Idaho medical licensure to maintain and strengthen the Health System's general internal program across all communities we serve.
