Job Summary:
The RN assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the care for a designated group of patients. The RN coordinates, directs and actively participates as an effective member of the interdisciplinary health care team, contributing to the efficient operation of the unit and promoting positive patient outcomes. Requires participation in a call rotation to ensure ability to care for post-operative patients 24/7.

- Ensures operation of equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
- Maintains nursing supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies; using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
Specialty Essential Functions:
- Demonstrates knowledge of circulating/scrub nurse duties.
- Pre-ops patient at the appropriate time.
- Identifies patient, appropriate surgical procedure and surgical site by following the policy for surgical site identification.
- Positions the patient correctly for each procedure preserving skin integrity. Follows the principles of asepsis, reporting any breaks in aseptic technique and rectifying the situation.
- May perform laser procedures. May perform procedures involving radiation.
- Possesses the knowledge of proper instrument and equipment set up for each surgical procedure, coordinating with physician preference.
- Updates physician preference cards.
- Assists the surgeon in performing the surgical procedure.
- Handles specimens appropriately.
- Performs OR counts accurately and takes appropriate action in response to incorrect counts.
- Maintains the ability to adapt to the changing needs of the surgical team. May take call for OR on regular basis.
Marginal Functions: Defined as duties that are not essential in nature and do not take a considerable amount of time to complete (less than 10%).
- Performs other duties as required.
Required Skills and Knowledge: Minimum level of education, skills and abilities necessary in performing the job.
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program
Certification / Licensure / Regulation:
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Pennsylvania
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) approved curriculum of the American Heart Association (CPR and AED) program.
- Act 153; PA State Police Clearance; Child Abuse Clearance; FBI Clearance thru the Dept of Human Services

- Strong leadership ability, independent thinking and decision-making ability; analytical problem solving skills, sound judgment; excellent oral and written communication skills, must be able to function in a team environment.
- A Nursing refresher course may be required if employee hasn’t worked in an acute care setting for his / her most recent three consecutive years of professional employment.
