Job Summary:
The PACU Registered Nurse is responsible for the care of patients recovering from anesthesia and surgical procedures. The PACU RN will monitor patients’ vital signs, assess recovery progress, and provide emotional support while ensuring all safety protocols are followed. Compassion, attention to detail, and strong communication skills are essential for this role, as the RN will collaborate closely with surgical teams and families to facilitate a smooth recovery process.
• The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care in the ambulatory setting.
• Ability to scrub required procedures.
• Care of the surgical patient in the OR.
• Provides Nursing care to a broad range of surgical patients in the Plastic Surgery environment.
• The RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care of all assigned patients
• The RN will coordinate care with members of the health care team including the Surgeon, Anesthesia team (Anesthesiologist, CRNA), Surgical Technologist and Perioperative RN
• Follows all Policies and Procedures as well as professional practice guidelines
• Provides nursing care for patients in an altered state of consciousness.
• Provides drug administration and comfort management.
• Has knowledge of anesthetic agents, narcotic analgesic, post op pain and comfort management, post op nausea and vomiting management and ability to recognize and treat arrhythmia and respond to abnormal vital signs.
• Speaking up with safety concerns acting as the patient advocate.
• Pre-op assessment and admission
• Ability to work with patients from different cultures
• Handling all specimens according to facility policy and procedure
• Adhering to standard precautions including the use of personal protective equipment.
• Performing interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period.
• Performing interventions to protect the patient from infection.
• Manage the patients’ fluids as prescribed.
• Protecting the patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy.
• Providing culturally competent, ethical care within legal standards of practice, Complying with Universal Protocol and facility site validation and time-out policy.
• Document episode of care completely, accurately, and legibly.
• Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration skills with members of the perioperative team. Serve as a member of a multidisciplinary team in planning perioperative patient care.
• Use problem solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members.
• Maintain required competencies.
• Actively participate in team meetings, training, drills and mandatory education.
• Demonstrate fiscal responsibility.
• Assists with the day-to-day operations of the center including stocking of supplies, daily and monthly cleaning, and laundry.
• Ability to work Monday through Friday with flexibility in start and end times.
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing
- Three years of Perioperative experience including OR Circulator experience.
- Current state licensure to practice within good standing
- Successful completion of Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Successful completion of Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 90 days of employment
- Ability to work independently
- Attention to Detail and following Policies set forth by the Department.
- Critical Thinking Skills along with good communication skills.
