Position is a Charge Nurse/Nurse Clinician located at Scotland Correctional Institution in Laurinburg NC, which houses approximately 1800 of minimum, medium or close custody female or male offenders. Employees in this class performs professional nursing work at the full-performance level providing direct patient care to individuals with varied health problems. Employees in this class serve as a lead nurse and typically work independently with other healthcare professionals. Work includes conducting nursing assessments; developing, implementing and evaluating treatment plans; and providing patient care and education through case management. There is a greater emphasis in independent practice and advanced clinical knowledge/skills. Employees in this class administer medications and treatments as directed by a physician. The Charge Nurse position will provide Blood Borne Pathogen Training to all newly assigned offender janitors, kitchen workers, and maintenance workers. Employees in this class are responsible for appropriate treatment and medical documentation and may assist the nursing supervisor by directly supervising licensed and unlicensed assigned nursing staff. Performs other related work as required. Work is performed under the general supervision of a Nurse Supervisor.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

As of January 1, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state’s pay plans which were approved by the State’s Human Resource’s Commission. The new salary range will be $59,732-$98,557.

Their goal is to ensure that all offenders receive full-spectrum medical care from the time of entry until their release. The team of physicians, nurses, behavioral health services, dental services, psychiatric services, pharmacy services, and licensed healthcare administration services work together to provide emergent, acute, routine, and chronic health care, as well as preventive medicine at all prison facilities. They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison, improving public health, and decreasing recidivism.
