NOTE: This is an hourly/wage (P-14) position and Wage employees are limited to working a maximum of 1500 hours in a 365-day period. This position averages no more than 29 hours a week. Wage positions carry no benefits.

The Division of Child Support Enforcement (DCSE) intern with the Virginia Department of Social Services will provide students an opportunity to combine their academic studies with on-the-job training and experience while completing their education. The internship program is designed around a project-based assignment, which will support the mission of the agency and the career goals and interest of the intern.
The DCSE intern will report to the Program Initiatives Manager and gain project based or work experience by:
• Support NextGen FIRST Whole Family training and case management
• Assist with project design components regarding whole family services
• Assist with the development and coordination of a network of services and resources tailored to the needs and interests of the NextGen customer.
• Support the development of an assessment tool for the NextGen project
• This position will also have the opportunity to learn from and work alongside the team to Program Initiatives Team; and other duties as assigned that may enhance the learning experience.
Minimum Qualifications
• Rising junior, senior, or graduate student enrolled in an accredited university or college in good academic standing pursuing a major in Social Work or a related area.
• GPA of 2.5 or higher.
• Knowledge of core functional areas related to a Social Work degree.
• Ability to work the entire duration of the internship program, May 19, 2025 – August 8, 2025.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other computer software tool as applicable to the position.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow written instructions or strong reading skills, with the ability to analyze, understand, and apply written procedures.
• Business writing and composition skills.
• Familiarity with office equipment.
• Ability to research, disseminate and present information.
• Identify problems and recommend solutions.
• Promote feelings of trust and security by establishing strong, caring relationships.
• Ability to display tact, discretion, and sound judgment.

• Experience writing reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
