We are seeking skilled RNs who have experience working with both adult and pediatric patients in an outpatient clinic environment to join our dedicated team!
THE DEPARTMENT: Ventura County Ambulatory Care, a Department of the Ventura County Health Care Agency, provides comprehensive, compassionate, and coordinated primary, specialty, and urgent care for the residents of Ventura County.
We are a network of 35 clinics conveniently located throughout the county. Eighteen of our clinics are Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC). Our clinics proudly serve as our community’s public safety net system as well as provide care to those who are privately insured.
From preventative care, such as vaccinations, lab work, and routine wellness exams, to specialized treatment for managing chronic conditions, we offer a medical home for adult and pediatric patients.
THE POSITION: The County of Ventura Ambulatory Care is currently recruiting registered nurses for our Outpatient Clinics. What We Offer:
The following apply to Regular positions:- Educational Incentive: 2.5% for an associate degree, 3.5% for a bachelor's degree, or 5% for a master's degree not required for the classification.
- Bilingual Incentive: Some positions may be eligible for bilingual incentive depending on the applicable memorandum of agreement and the needs of the department. To qualify for this incentive, incumbents in eligible positions must take and pass the applicable bilingual fluency exam.
- Certification Pay: $0.813 per hour based on scheduled work week hours for each qualified certification up to a maximum of five (5) certifications. One of the five certifications may be paid at $2.00 per hour for a National Certification. (For a list of certifications, see the CNA MOA, Exhibit 9.)
- Continuous County Service Incentive Pay: 1% for 7 years, 1.25% for 12 years and 1.5% for 17 years.
- Flexible Credit Allowance: Biweekly contribution towards medical, dental, and/or vision insurance from authorized plans.
- Pension Plan: Participation in the County's defined benefit plan.
The following apply to Per Diem positions:- Certification Pay: $0.813 per hour based on scheduled work week hours for each qualified certification up to a maximum of five (5) certifications.
- Educational Incentive: Incumbents may be eligible for educational incentive pay in addition to the adjusted base rate of pay in the noted amounts for educational attainments which are not specifically required for the classifications:
- Bachelor's Degree $1.25 per hour
- Graduate Degree $1.75 per hour
- Bilingual Incentive: Incumbents may also be eligible for bilingual incentive depending upon operational need and certification of skill. In order to qualify for this incentive, incumbents in eligible positions must take and pass the applicable bilingual fluency examination.
- Evening & Night Shift Differential: 7.5% - 15%
- Weekend Shift Differential: $2.00 per hour
- Health Care Plan: Per Diem employees may purchase the Ventura County Health Care Plan (VCHCP) at their own expense.

Primary Care Clinic Registered Nurse I:
Duties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Coordinates and facilitates delivery of care to patient and family in a primary care capacity or specialty area, specifically in an outpatient clinic setting.
- Assesses and identifies nursing care needs of patients and plans, implements, and evaluates interventions appropriate to these needs.
- Actively participates in patient care team duties and activities, including pre-visit planning, identifying gaps in care, health maintenance needs, and team huddles.
- Uses a minimum of two patient identifiers throughout the patient care process.
- Monitors clinical areas to minimize patient wait time and to address any potential acute situation.
- Prepares patient and exam room for procedures. Assists provider in procedures.
- Collects and prepares specimens.
- May support providers in medication management duties, including providing refills by protocol.
- Provides training and clinical guidance to clinical support staff in assigned area.
- Provides triage of patients with proper disposition and appropriate level of care using agency triage protocols.
- Ensures appropriate documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Coordinates patient care by following up on orders, including referrals to ancillary and specialty services.
- Maintains clean and safe patient areas. Demonstrates adherence to and observes all safety policies and procedures, inclusive of infection control rules and regulations.
- Answers telephones and takes messages, reviews portal messages and routes as appropriate, and completes assigned tasks to ensure patient needs are addressed.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patents served (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics).
- May provide case management to patients with high risk/chronic conditions to support treatment plan and patient self- management goals.
- Participates in assigned training and meetings.
- Maintains and adheres to HIPAA.
- Reports patient safety incidents to supervisor and via the patient safety reporting software.
- Maintains current knowledge in specialty areas and ability to apply same in patient care.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Primary Care Clinic Registered Nurse II:
In addition to the duties above:
- May develop and implement patient and family education programs.
- May assist in establishing patient care standards.
- Participates in the development of clinic policies, procedures, and protocols for patient care.
- Participates in nursing committee activities.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE:Primary Care Clinic Registered Nurse I:
Requires no previous experience.
Primary Care Clinic Registered Nurse II:
Requires six (6) months of full-time professional registered nursing experience.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:- Must possess and maintain a current, valid license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of California.
- Must have a current, valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification by the first day of employment.
- Must be willing and able to successfully complete the Health Care Agency Pharmacology examination within three (3) months of employment.
DESIRED:- Some experience in outpatient clinic settings, family practice, and childhood immunization.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Working to comprehensive knowledge of: the principles, practices, and techniques used in nursing care and case management in primary and specialty clinics, including an understanding of outpatient workflow.
Working ability to: provide direction (level II); serve as a resource to others; complete required continuing education programs; work proficiently in emergency and/or stressful situations; maintain confidentiality of patient/client information; effectively maintain a positive working relationship with the medical staff, public, patients, and hospital administration; and communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.FINAL FILING DATE: This is a continuous recruitment and may close at any time; therefore, apply as soon as possible if you are interested.
